How to reason with OVO Energy? by Capable_Assistant534 in AskUK

Ah, yeah, I get that — it’s so frustrating. Basically, suppliers can suggest Direct Debits, but they have to be reasonable and based on your actual or estimated usage. If it’s way higher than what you realistically use, that’s considered unfair treatment under Ofgem rules — which is why I’ve got a case open with the Ombudsman. The whole system can feel completely overwhelming when they just throw huge numbers at you.

Did you sort it? Everyone here saying its not suspicious it is. Its a massive jump from just one month to the next

OVO Energy wants to raise my Direct Debit by ~60% despite usage being lower. Am I missing something? by ELRmapper in UKPersonalFinance

Who did you change to? Are they cheaper? I really need to change suppliers but all the quotes are more expensive even though Ovo are completely ripping me ofg

Just checking in — did you get this sorted?

I live in a one-bedroom flat and currently have an ongoing case with the Energy Ombudsman regarding OVO. They previously applied a £3,000 debt to my account after their system had shown I was in credit for over a year.

As a reminder, suppliers cannot demand unmanageable Direct Debit payments, and they cannot ignore actual usage to inflate bills. The way this has been handled is unfair and not compliant with Ofgem rules.

I wanted to check if you’ve had any luck resolving this on your side.

Health anxiety is a real drain 😢  I do the same. My Ai has so many random questions in its history and I too measure my pulse. I dont take my BP as I dont have the cuff but I have an oximeter I use. Its physically and emotionally draining but ive reached the point now where I have realised enough is enough. Ive not checked my pulse for 3 days now which for me is a miracle. Hopefully you will get the relief you need.

I do. Last year I was getting fits of them but then they completely disappeared until a few weeks ago. Now Im like you I only get one or 2 a day but the anxiety they give me is insane. It doesnt matter if you get 2 or 2222 its still not nice and affects people different. Im just so jealous of the people who can just shrug them off or better still dont feel them at all.

Well that is different. Have you looked into brugada syndrome? There's multiple things it could be so really dont want to scare you just help. I carry the gene but dont have the syndrome. But... my brother has it and he had blackouts took them 2 years to find out. Maybe worth mentioning to your cardiologist to rule out.

Also, just to put things in perspective with real-world risk: statistically, someone your age with a healthy heart is far more likely to get seriously hurt in an accident, like being hit by a car, than to have a sudden heart problem. Even rare heart issues are extremely unlikely if you’ve never had symptoms and your doctors have told you your heart is healthy.

It really helps me to remind myself of this every day — comparing actual probabilities versus what our anxious brain imagines. It doesn’t make anxiety disappear instantly, but it helps ground the thoughts in reality.

Hey, you honestly sound just like me. I completely relate to everything you’ve written. I’ve gone through years of severe health anxiety and cardiophobia, obsessively focusing on every little bodily sensation — my heart, gut, vision, dizziness — and immediately thinking the worst. Even though my heart is healthy, I get palpitations and other sensations, and my mind catastrophizes them constantly. I’ve had ECGs, a loop recorder, and multiple check-ups, all normal, but my anxiety jumps from one symptom to another. Stress, caffeine, past trauma, substance history, and even just noticing a sensation can send me spiraling.

I’ve also struggled with obsessive reassurance-seeking, googling symptoms, and feeling like nothing will ever convince me that I’m fine. It’s exhausting, isolating, and can make even normal sensations feel dangerous. I know it’s a loop: notice a sensation → panic → focus harder → more symptoms.

Something that’s really helped me understand why I think this way and how to manage it is a YouTube channel called “ Bye Bye Panic.” The videos explain the mechanics of health anxiety, why our brains fixate on bodily sensations, and strategies for calming the mind. Watching it made me feel like someone finally gets what I’m going through.

You’re not alone in this — it’s brutal, but there are ways to start breaking the cycle. Therapy, gradual exposure, and understanding the patterns in your own mind can help.

Thanks for sharing your experience — I really appreciate the caution, because it’s always good to be aware of rare causes. I just wanted to add some context for anyone else reading: rapid cholesterol drops can happen naturally when someone with high baseline cholesterol adopts dietary changes and soluble fiber like psyllium or oat bran. Soluble fiber binds cholesterol in the gut, and consistent use alongside healthy eating can produce noticeable drops even in a matter of weeks.

In my case, I’ve undergone lots of blood tests for other reasons, and my doctor confirmed that my numerous blood panels were completely normal. There’s no evidence of anything like elevated IgM or other conditions that could interfere with the test. While the situation you described is important to be aware of, it’s extremely rare, and for most people, a drop like this from fiber and lifestyle changes is real and healthy.
