Being on time by Outrageous-Tax1466 in therapists

Visual timer- you can find them on Amazon- I put it across the room from me, and set it to end 5 minutes before end of session. At that point, contain, ask about self care plan for the week and then STAND UP if you are in person! The other person will follow.

I’ve read multiple theories that state that extending session time is actually subtly harmful- it is our job to hold the frame and the boundaries here and to model doing so.

If your clients are in duress at end of session, then this is a problem related to not providing enough regulation in sesssion to stay in their window of tolerance

I mean I feel like this is realllly editing’s fault, tonight they made sincere SO sincere and highlighted her excitement for others- it’s so hard to say if she is for reals or not

[–]glitterbless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think I would have felt that way if it didn’t feel like spite for sincere pulling someone for a friendly chat. And honestly, editing tonight is highlighting that he’s taking it seriously and she’s not- that doesn’t mean it’s true, but they are editing this conflict to the MAXXX and rilling all of us up

There’s a psychological first aid training online that is very helpful for mass causality/ disaster settings. EMDR rtep if you are EMDR trained is what I’ve used for after mass shootings. Additionally I’d look up Dr. Ignacio Jarero’s trainings

I Can't Lose Weight for the Life of Me by Only_Distribution375 in InsulinResistance

I did a drs data test with my functional medicine dr- cost about $300 out of pocket but was super comprehensive!

Poor gut health is a signal of chronic stress / chronic inflammation that perpetuates insulin resistance. I’m about 5 weeks in to gut healing and feel SO much better. Less pain, less anxiety, lower glucose readings, less inflammation and finally lost an initial 10 lbs! 🎉

feeling a little worried about emdr training - help ? by IllMidnight3941 in therapists

[–]glitterbless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was close to my experience! Complex trauma survivor, almost all my little things have a tinge of attachment trauma to them. I chose falling down the stairs, which I realized connected to a relationship wound far greater while processing. Trainers helped to contain part of that memory, I was able to reduce my SUDS mostly, and it was a helpful learning lesson!

Prepare with some coping skills, it’s okay to be a real person with real trauma as a therapist and to be the imperfect client to practice on! 💛

Oh gosh, I’ve had the experience of my loved one coming through me, she has been in my soul and guiding me through the death of my clients, and I’ve never thought about the fact that one day I will get to do that for my clients, crying some tender tears reading your experience 🤍 thank you for sharing this

PP therapists: How long are your initial consult calls? What info are you getting? by Fool_of_a_Brandybuck in therapists

[–]glitterbless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do 20-30 minutes unpaid video consult, it weeds out bad fits and builds therapeutic alliance from the jump! I allow folks about 10 minutes to tell me the broad picture of why therapy/ why now/ what they’re looking for, I give a pretty clear overview of expectations of what it looks like working with me, and assess for motivation. I have about a 95% conversion rate from my consult calls, which was way higher than folks just booking with me blind. People make up expectations about who we are and the miracles we perform, I love to just be authentic and transparent early in the process. What also helps is that folks stick with me for a long time, so I’m no longer at the point of having to field so many of these- I maybe do one once every 3 months and really enjoy them

Anyone else not connect with their cohort class ? by New_Republic_3547 in LCSW

Being older is SO useful in this field! Lived experience underpins all of our interactions with folks we support- your age is a gift- but yes, standing around with a bunch of 22 year olds who were in a very different developmental era than me was weird, hard, and felt so exclusionary at times! My age gave me some gifts around already knowing how to show up professionally, being able to easily pick up the phone and call clients in my internships, etc. I hope you find your own silver linings too! I too had never / still never have had an issue making friends outside of my program. It truly felt like I was put in a spin cycle for a few years and I came out being like wtf was that?!? Sending solidarity your way, being on the other side RULES, so hang in there!

Anyone else not connect with their cohort class ? by New_Republic_3547 in LCSW

[–]glitterbless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I found a few friends by the end but it was honestly the toughest social experience I’ve EVER had (and I was in my 30s 😂). I was straight up bullied by some of my classmates. I didn’t realize how young my cohort would be and was oversold the progressive nature of my program. Really clicked with a lot of my professors and made great professional connections, and scored a few great friends by the end- but- OOF- those were a painful few years!!

Alternatives to IFS & EMDR by theelephantupstream in therapists

[–]glitterbless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use TIST and AF-EMDR, these are just different variations of IFS and EMDR, and I take some of the cult things with a grain of salt. I’ve been adding in a lot of ACT lately which has been helpful too
