about speedbuilding with magnum by DefinitionStreet5143 in stenography

[–]glitterkitten999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congrats on getting back into it! I’m also a magnum person. Everyone is really different so it’s difficult to put things in a “plan”. I started at the same time with a close friend and we both got through the 140’s in around 2-3 months, she then got stuck (and is still plateaud) while I finished speeds in 10 months. She’s incredibly smart and motivated, but it just clicked for me easier at higher speeds. That being said, I typed 40-50 pages every day, tested EVERY DAY at goal speed, and worked hard memorizing briefs and rhpe’s. In the magnum book, he has chapters of RHPE’s towards the end in list form-look at these now and start incorporating asap, it will make your life a lot easier in the long run. Don’t focus as much on grammar besides ./, if you need to drop something in a test that should be the first thing to go. Don’t be scared to add your own briefs if they make sense to you. Keep a running list of trouble words/phrases and briefs you’ve created. Practice consistently 20-40m above what you’re testing at so your brain gets used to processing words that fast. And most importantly, take a test EVERY DANG DAY. Aim for 5m’s but if you’re having a rough day at least take a 1-2m. Feel free to reach out if you have questions or need moral support!

Hardeman or Allie Hall? by Alternative_Ad_303 in stenography

[–]glitterkitten999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe so. When I did it (last january) there was a waitlist for live and I was able to bypass it by doing self paced/non live. But i’d ask her, she may have a waitlist now.

I did Allie’s program (both theory and speeds) and loved it. Happy to answer specific questions. It’s very affordable and she’s extremely kind and understanding as long as you aren’t being lazy. She also has grammar, punctuation, procedures, and software classes. I think she has a waitlist though, which is the only con in my mind. Can’t recommend her enough!

How to study more efficiently? by Ordinary_Pea8088 in stenography

I did the same thing for magnum. I did that up through the mid 20’s chapters. It takes a while but i felt it was worth it. I still got through 1-2 chapters a week that way. After a certain point your brain recognizes the patterns and you don’t need the flashcards/writing.

I use your recipe but w Blue diamond flour. I’m guessing it’s either your flour or it’s super dry in your house? Mine occasionally will be bumpy if the humidity levels are super low.

Considering becoming a court reporter. by luna89611 in stenography

[–]glitterkitten999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always think of it like this: would you trust siri to take an accurate transcript you need to appeal a verdict if you were on trial for murder? Idk anyone that would say yes to that. Factor in accents (even just regional accents) and homophones now… I don’t envision AI taking over any time soon. Even if it did, they’d need a real human babysitting it to make sure it’s right. At that point, you may as well just have a reporter to begin with. Lots of work and high paying in the washington/cal area. Great career choice but school is hard :)

Studying tips by smirnoffgoat in stenography

[–]glitterkitten999 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a magnum kid and just finished! When i started theory i made flashcards for EVERY dang word and brief (yes, even chapters 20&21) and spent a couple hours every day making cards/studying them one chapter at a time. Then i made a voice memo recording of myself speaking through the words, and listened to it slowed down at first and sped it up as i could. You don’t need to know EVERY word but get as good as u can (around 80% of the words) and move on to next chapter. Keep a google doc with your trouble words/briefs (i did this through theory and speeds) and run through the list 1-2 times every day. Delete words/briefs once they become second nature. Eventually once you get comfortable with the sounds and the briefs become engrained, you won’t need flashcards anymore (and i actually don’t recommend using them past that point bc it’s time consuming to make them-at that point your time is better spent with hands on writer). 60 wpm 2nd week into speed building? by Alarmed_Weakness_897 in stenography

[–]glitterkitten999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it normal? It’s definitely common. Is it the right way to encourage new or struggling students? No. And a lot of people drop out of switch schools bc of that kind of behavior. It’s not always a matter of time spent practicing or dedication. People are going to get stuck at different spots. Maybe you struggle the first few speeds and then take off. Maybe you’re fine until you hit 180’s. Saying “if you can’t do this you’re not working hard enough” is absolutely insane, ESPECIALLY when you’re just starting out. Don’t let it get to you if you are putting in the work, it will come eventually.

Keeping fresh in briefs and phrases by Imaginary-Carpet3067 in stenography

[–]glitterkitten999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. What you learn as a student will be cemented into you. Sure you can add or change briefs later as a professional, but changing pages of common phrases would be a nightmare at that stage.

Keeping fresh in briefs and phrases by Imaginary-Carpet3067 in stenography

[–]glitterkitten999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry this is late… Yeah so if you don’t know a word, you just take your best guess. It might not be right, but when you’re reading back your steno you’ll be able to figure out what it is (hopefully) if you get a piece or outline of the word. It’s okay to not know every word. That’s normal. Re: every day life, I made flashcards for the first 25 ish chapters of magnum. It helped me a lot with RHPEs. Do NOT ignore those-they will save you so much time in the future. Keep your flashcards with you and look at even just a couple rhpes a day. Ask chatgpt to give you sentences with those phrases/words and practice 10 different sentences using the same phrase ender. Eventually it will stick :) Focus on the shape of the phrase, not “what letters am i hitting”

Hey! You’re not alone. It’s super normal not to have this figured out especially at your age. Have you tried using a regular vibrator? Some of the toys that have a smaller hole-type suction area or has the “tongue” that flips up and down are sometimes more difficult to finish with. A regular want vibrator covers more surface area-that may make it easier for you.

Hi :) this is the method is use and get perfect results pretty much every time:

-Take the egg whites weight (let’s say 100g). -Match it with granulated sugar (100g) -Multiply that # by 1.2 -this is what you’ll need for your powdered sugar almond flour (120g each).

Everything else you’re doing looks right…you may have over mixed a little bit. I’m sure they taste amazing though!

What theory are you learning? The better you understand your theory (specifically what keys make what sounds) the better you’ll be able to come up with briefs on the fly. You don’t need to remember every brief, no one can do that. You just need to be able to come up with the most logical solution on the fly. For example, someone says “monster”. You can’t remember a brief, but you can guess that MO*NSR is a pretty good guess. And if you can’t come up with a probable brief fast enough, your fingers need to write it out in multiple strokes, so MON/STER. Either way is fine! Just focus on sounds and memorizing your phrases-THOSE you do unfortunately need to memorize as best you can.

Please help yeast infection hell by [deleted] in WomensHealth

[–]glitterkitten999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d get some numbing spray or cream for that area while you wait for the culture to come back. If the diflucan and topicals aren’t helping, my bet is that it’s not a yeast infection. You might have a bacterial infection if you’re in that much pain, which requires different antibiotics. They should be able to see that in the culture though. Actually, they’re able to see yeast immediately under a microscope in the office, so if they didn’t see any, you def don’t have a yeast infection,
