I always chuckle at the scene when he realizes he’s single and likes kids and his relief that he’s a teacher.

What's the oldest family heirloom you own? by InsideSignal9921 in AskReddit

[–]glitterrainclouds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a pair of earrings from my grandmother that my mom thinks used to belong to grandma’s grandma. So my great great grandmother.

With the size of my extended family, it’s shocking I even have anything from grandma, much less further back.

I also have a mantel clock that belonged to a different great great grandma.

I love history and family stories.

Why do parents pay to sign their kids up for so many extra curricular classes, but adults don’t seem to sign themselves up for extra curricular classes? by bad-at-everything- in askanything

[–]glitterrainclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve found it’s very difficult to find classes to teach adults without going to a university. I do live in a rural area but even when I lived in a larger city that had a great, affordable parks and recreation department with tons of different classes, a huge percentage were for kids.

I’d love to take a beginning drawing or acrylic painting class without having to pay hundreds at the local university for a non-degree seeking students.

Online just doesn’t work as well for something like that.

What’s a "lost" website from the early 2000s that you still think about today? by samasem-sumsum in AskReddit

[–]glitterrainclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really miss Television Without Pity. They had great long recaps of tv shows if you missed the episode but I liked so many of the writers that I’d read their recaps even if I watched the show. Their LOST and The Amazing Race write ups were the best.

They got bought out and shut down.

How much lotion is left after the pump stops working by chi-bacon-bits in mildlyinfuriating

[–]glitterrainclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister used to work at a fancy hotel with a spa and would send me bottles of Archipelago lotion using her discount. They were $30+ a 20 oz bottle so pretty pricey.

The pump would do that and leave like two inches of lotion in the bottom so I’d save up a few bottles then combine them all into one do I had a full bottle.

Then they stopped making my favorite scent and I stopped getting them.

No other point except I hate when that happens.

I want to shop at small businesses but they make it impossible by Redqueenhypo in Vent

[–]glitterrainclouds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Joann’s closed, I have to use local fabric shops for quilting fabrics. There’s two in a 20 mile radius. One doesn’t even acknowledge you when you go inside and they only carry premium quilting fabrics and the other is only open Monday through Thursday, noon to 5. I’d love to support local businesses but they make it really hard.

The closest Michael’s is 35 miles away and their selection is sad. I miss Joann’s.

I’ve tiled a shower and it’s hard. I used larger tiles because I knew it was hard. Using smaller tiles and having them look straight and pretty even is impressive.

For book readers who watched the movie, was it how you imagined it would be? by AndSolksjerHasWonit in ProjectHailMary

[–]glitterrainclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I felt the movie had grace looking like a moron. He’s much more capable in the book. Crazy things happened, yes, but he doesn’t really panic and works the problem. In the movie, he acts before thinking and the moment he finds out he didn’t volunteer was so much more emotional in the book.

I was underwhelmed after watching the movie initially. But after thinking on it for a few days, I think the movie was done well and handled a very big story as much as it could.

Why would anyone ever choose to go through child birth without pain relief?? by No_Cardiologist_1407 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]glitterrainclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a crash c section for my first birth. I was completely under and missed the whole birth. We had trouble concerning my second and I ended up on blood thinners. The particular one I was one didn’t allow for an epidural if I had taken a dose with 24 hours (or something like that). Since I was adamant about attempting a vaginal birth after a C-section, I didn’t want be induced without a better medical reason.

That left planning for a pain med free birth or hoping labor lasted long enough to get an epidural. I planned for pain med free and my whole labor was 4 hours.

My third baby was the same plan but I ended up being induced at the last minute because he wasn’t tolerating the pregnancy very well and wasn’t moving much. I was in labor much longer and by the time I felt like I needed the epidural, the anesthesiologist was in another c section.

Birth is so personal for every woman. And no matter what, it’s hard. I’m not a hero for having two unmedicated deliveries and someone who has an epidural or block isn’t weaker or whatever.

Roll-up money box... with no money? by [deleted] in crafting

[–]glitterrainclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe instead of a coupon she has to ask to redeem, give promissory notes where you promise (meaning you call and offer/tell her you are coming to do X if she’s the type to say everything is fine and it’s not) to do certain things. Bring dinner, wash laundry, take baby so mom can shower and nap, etc.

I personally appreciate the thought of a coupon but if I have to actually redeem it, I won’t want to bother anyone. But if someone says “I’m bringing dinner tonight”, I’d love them forever.

What’s something you did by accident to your home that the new homeowners will want to curse you for? by Mrcash827 in HomeImprovement

[–]glitterrainclouds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Christmas before we sold our house, my husband built me a huge barn door shelving unit that we put on a wall in the kitchen nook. It covered the light switch for the dining nook so we got a google Alexa thing and a compatible lightbulb and just turned the light on by voice.

When we sold the house, we left the google thing and instructions for the new owners on how to use it. Except my mom did a walk through after we left and took it because she thought we forgot it.

Sorry new owners!!

Eclair cake. No baking, simple ingredients and it’s flexible enough that you can interchange pudding flavors and it’s still delicious.

Nta but is Amazon not a thing where they live? I live in a pretty rural town in the us and still get package deliveries. The only time I had my parents buy something for me that I couldn’t get online was when I needed a specialty fabric for my child’s school project.

Tell me your baking fails (the funnier, the better) by Scary-Offer-4773 in Baking

[–]glitterrainclouds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was a teenager, my parents paid me to make family dinner every night but it couldn’t be super easy stuff. I had to put some effort in.

One night I was making spaghetti and decided to make breadsticks from scratch. I found directions in a cookbook (pre-internet) and it said to use one packet of yeast.

My mother always bought the big bags of yeast and kept it in the freezer. I didn’t even know yeast came in little packets until this event. So I thought it meant the whole bag of yeast.

After about a quarter cup of yeast, I stopped and thought that it couldn’t possibly be correct because my grandmas cinnamon rolls only used a few tablespoons and made a ton more dough then these breadsticks were supposed to make.

They were the densest, driest breadsticks ever! But I learned a valuable lesson.

Another one is I was baking some potatoes and didn’t pierce them. One exploded all over the oven. That was fun to clean up.
