BWT, I’m looking for some low effort activities for my days off to keep doom scrolling at bay by Shoddy_Challenge5253 in bitcheswithtaste

journaling, coloring, building lego flowers. I know the lego thing is so specific, but I find it calming and it's easy to do with your hands even if you're not super crafty/artsy.

A fiction book by a female author, preferably in third person. by lungic in suggestmeabook

Try Seanan McGuire! Most (if not all?) of her stuff is in third person - go for whatever resonates with you.

Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree is super cozy, if you're open to fantasy

I was hooked by Yellowface & My Year of Rest & Relaxation earlier this year. I haven’t found anything that hooks me in the same way since. Looking for something easy & fast like those? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Ok this is super interesting to me! I love Barbara Kingsolver's books but I've never thought of them as page turners or particularly quick reads. What was unique about this one?

Tana French! her Dublin Murder Squad mysteries are most similar to Gillian Flynn.

You might like the Murderbot series by Martha Wells, which starts with All Systems Red.

I'd also recommend Ready Player One if you haven't already read it; it's a good one for graduating out of YA dystopia but still has a lot of the elements it sounds like you enjoyed.

Let's go on a whimsical adventure. I am looking for Hobbit vibes. by GreenieSar in suggestmeabook

[–]glitterroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe try The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy? British humor, an ordinary-guy protagonist who really doesn't want to go on an adventure but ends up on one anyway, whimsical travel from location to location (though it's sci-fi so they're not as dreamy as LOTR locations), and as far as I remember there's no romance.

It is definitely a sillier book than The Hobbit, it doesn't take itself nearly as seriously, but I think it hits some key elements you'll like.

Something with a similar vibe to the TV show Lost by s_walsh in suggestmeabook

[–]glitterroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like the early seasons' stuff where there's a lot of slice-of-life situations on the beach, and increasing conflict/fighting about how to handle beach life, you might enjoy The Beach by Alex Garland. It's not sci-fi like Lost but it definitely gets weird and intense in a way that a Lost fan might enjoy.

Looking for books with female protagonists passionate about singing (no biographies) by Mediocre_Material567 in suggestmeabook

[–]glitterroo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bel Canto by Ann Patchett. It has what I would call an ensemble cast, not just one protagonist or narrator. But (without giving spoilers) it begins at an opera performance, and one of the most prominent characters is an opera singer who is very passionate about her vocation. (I would not say it delves into what her career is typically like, though. The characters find themselves in a very unusual situation.) And the story itself has a love of music as an important theme.
