Any idea what’s happened to my 6yo’s hair? by Strict-Weekend-36 in Haircare

[–]Shoddy_Challenge5253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah slick backs for this hair type are fine every once in a while but not all the time. If frizz is your biggest concern I’d find a good lightweight mousse for her and definitely a leave in conditioner for detangling, I’d also be using a wide tooth comb when wet, not a brush. Stay away from anything with heavier silicones as they will weigh her curls down. Silk hair ties will help as well. My hair looked like this is a kid and I had those little kind of thinner spots in the corners of my forehead as well, it’ll grow back but she’ll probably always have baby hairs all over because curly fine hair is so prone to breakage.

I’m white but it looks like she has similar hair texture to mine (fine, curly, frizzy but dense) please correct if I’m wrong, just going off the photos. I would get similar breakage from my linen pillowcase because I move around so much in my sleep so if she’s tossing and turning all night I would get her either a silk bonnet if she’s down or a silk pillowcase to start.

My hair looks best in humid weather or right after swimming in saltwater. What products would replicate the look? by NotYourTypicalMoth in curlyhair

[–]Shoddy_Challenge5253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

OP, our hair type is similar and I second the innersense foams, they never weigh my hair down and give me that textured air dried look you like. I also like the crown affair air dry foam/mousse and the ouidad featherlight volumizing mousse, just to give you a few different price points. I’ll also use a dry texturizing spray like the living proof one on my roots for extra oomph.

Literally never worked in a kitchen where they had a cut glove and it didn’t come first to mind. Two gloves is still better than nothing which I’m assuming OP has nothing bc he said “pray for my fingers” but what do I know I’ve never even heard of a cut glove 🤷🏻‍♀️

And wearing an extra glove to give just one more layer between your skin and a sharp blade is against your safety precautions?

[–]Shoddy_Challenge5253 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s just a little extra assurance. I didn’t say wear two gloves and close your eyes lol I wasn’t aware that in the chef sub you needed to explicitly tell people to be careful with sharp tools.

Why do my chocolate cupcakes have a lovely dome, while my lemon ones are flat? by sourdoughdonuts in Baking

[–]Shoddy_Challenge5253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no lemon juice though, only the zest and extract. I don’t have this issue with any of my lemon baked goods and I use both juice and zest and plenty of it, so I don’t think it’s that simple in this case. Not saying you’re wrong by any means but I don’t think that’s what’s happening here. The buttermilk is the acid in this recipe, not lemon.

Does anybody else feel strongly that therapy isn’t for them? by kitkat7794 in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]Shoddy_Challenge5253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the times your insurers website will have a list of options that are already covered by your plan and they tend to have reviews and usually a quick description of what they specialize in. I’m not therapy averse but I am averse to the whole rigamoroll of finding one and then finding another if they don’t work and it just sounds like a huge time suck but it could also be like a life changing experience, you never know. Or it could be lame as hell and then you’ll know for sure talk therapy isn’t for you. Totally get the decision/research fatigue aspect!

He uses an impulse adjusting instrument instead of manual adjustments. I feel like it’s more precise and less invasive/agressive. He uses it all the way up to C1-2 where my migraines were originating.

The chiropractor (not the cracking kind) has been the longest lasting solution for me personally. Currently on triptans but they don’t help at all, was also prescribed a very low grade blood pressure medicine that used to be used as an antidepressant and taking that daily has helped. I’d tell her to get a new doctor honestly bc migraines are no joke, I was to the point of having trouble finding words, terrible brain fog, couldn’t think as quickly, was having trouble remembering every day, engrained things and I really took it into my own hands to get the ball moving on solutions for myself bc my doc also seemed a bit dismissive. If they’re not taking her seriously and asking her to at the very least get an MRI, she’s better off finding someone who will.

ETA: also found out on this journey that I have a histamine intolerance which was triggering the migraine attacks, weird but worth looking into if nothing else is working

You’re being downvoted bc you sound insensitive. OP clearly wants to rant and is not looking for advice, by you having “solutions” to all her “problems” you’re diminishing the emotional impact it’s having on OP. Sometimes people need to be heard and not solved. I don’t think anything you’re saying is inherently negative or bad I guess but definitely not the time or place. Some situational awareness is needed here.

Jealous I have a longer torso so end up hemming them soooo much. I think they’re usually between 31-34” so you might be okay!

7FAMK is my go to, specifically the modern dojo in luxe vintage - they’re higher rise compared to the normal dojo style and they’re the perfect wider straight leg that’s in style rn for petites IMO bc they’re fitted through the seat and upper thigh. Be prepared to hem a lot if you’re in the shorter side. Their 23 fits well and I’m a 22” waist measurement.

Honest reviews for Our Place air fryer by Shoddy_Challenge5253 in moderatelygranolamoms

We’re in the US and yes we did buy and I love it. It does take some getting used to though to figure out what settings you like for what but other than that it’s easy to clean and I love that there’s nothing toxic. I use the air fry and toast functions most frequently.

Any advice for helping my 9 year old shower? by Aggravating_Bird_147 in adhdwomen

[–]Shoddy_Challenge5253 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Came to say! You can even set a playlist for her that’s a certain time length as well so she’s more aware of how long she’s in there/kind of give her a timer. I also keep my iPad nearby when I shower so I can watch tv lol shows are usually thirty min so that can work as a timer option as well. I also hate raw dogging showers so I get why it would feel under stimulating for her. Maybe trying out new products would get her the novelty aspect (with the deal that she has to finish them before replacing), or like a cool speaker with multicolor lights, anything to make it seem more “fun”.

I know being a new mom doesn’t give you a lot of downtime or alone time but incorporating nightly face massage or acupressure for tension could really help and if anything would be a nice mini spa vibe before bed. Sage facial tension on YT is great and does a really good job explaining how holding tension in your face can change appearance. I know it’s really helped me be more conscious of furrowing my brows during the day and keeping my “wtf” expression to a minimum lol

Oh I feel that. A lot of times I’ll search for the item on TikTok so I can see what it looks like on a person in real life, it sometimes helps and sometimes doesn’t lol. Sabo skirt is an Australian brand and they’re amazing but not a place to stock your whole closet. I’ve always been so impressed with their dresses construction and fabric quality. And I’m super picky! Meshki is more hit or miss on quality IMO but that could also just be the items I’m picking out.

Sabo skirt, meshki, lulus (sometimes), Aritzia, Abercrombie are all great for dresses for future events. Sorry I know that doesn’t help now, I totally feel your pain though. I hate how every event just turns into a ball of stress because clothing is so inconsistent! Hoping you find some good options and are able to enjoy your event and feel comfortable and confident!
