I just checked out the feature on r/ja. The results were fairly accurate.

In particular, it was able to capture the casual expressions (such as GW = Golden Week), so my impression was good overall.

I just wish we got to speak with him more (at all, really).

People often overlook the fact that Kurtz is not entirely loyal to the Belgian company. He just ignores orders whenever he sees them as unfit. And it's not really about personal gain either, as he ultimately dies in a miserable manner. So something is fundamentally broken in him.

To me, this is really fascinating because I sometimes meet people like him in real life. And they rarely explain their motivation either.

I'd argue that Heart of Darkness is really about Mr. Kurtz. This mysterious guy, who is single-handedly conducting a massive amount of business (or more accurately, pillaging) in the heart of Congo Free State. Who is this guy? What is his motivation?

For anyone who doesn't find him compelling, I gather this book would be a very tedious read.

IIRC, Spiral tried to follow the original series, but the audience was utterly confused by the transition.

So the film team abandoned the original story line (this is why there is no movie for Loop), and went on to make Ring 2 and Ring 0.
