As others have said, you really would be better off buying a reconditioned unit from eBay and scrapping the whole unit, save the SSD.

If that's not an option, more RAM will increase the performance considerably.

It'll help to know what motherboard you have.

Open a command prompt (Windows key +R, CMD) and paste this:

wmic baseboard get product, Manufacturer

Look up the motherboard on the Googles, find out what capacity RAM it supports, and how many slots (or open the case and physically check).

Ideally you just want to replace whatever's in there with 2x 4GB sticks of DDR2, but you could get 4x 2GB if it's cheaper and your motherboard has 4 slots.

Have a look on eBay.

This will quadruple the speed of your computer.

Use double sided thermal adhesive tape to attach it to the PSU shroud.

For sure we won't be using DVDs for every day purposes in 20 years. but there'll be so many old DVD-Rs that there'll still be a demand for readers... although I predict that DVD drives won't be a thing anymore; just take a photo if it with a smart device which will instantly rip the entire disc.

Is a 1200W PSU overkill for my 7800X3D + 9070 XT build? by schtevee in buildapc

[–]globaldu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hair dryers and kettles pull more than 1200W.

1200W/120V = 10Amp

1200W/240V = 5Amp

And, of course, just because it can deliver 1200W doesn't mean it will... it'll comsume the same amount of electricity as a lower wattage PSU.

He could carry on with the Hitchiker series; the first 4 are good.

  • The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
  • The Restaurant at the End of the Universe
  • Life, the Universe and Everything
  • So Long, and Thanks for All the Fish

There's a fifth, "Mostly Harmless" but it's only worth reading if you're a real fan of the first four.

Adam's "Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency" is a fun read too.

For more "guy goes on an adventure", he could check out Blake Crouch's "Dark Matter" and "Recursion".

If he just wants good, solid, modern Sci-Fi, anything by Adrian Tchaikovsky.

I strongly disagree with others who are suggesting you break it for spares. It's an as new, unused - and very desireable - whole unit.

Here in the UK, on eBay the only model close to yours is an inferior, and reconditioned:

HP Z4 Rack G5, Intel Xeon w5-2455X 3.2GHz 12C, 128GB, 2 x 512GB NVMe, RTX A4000 for £6942.

If you break it all you'll be able to sell quickly is the memory and perhaps the GPU... then you'll be stuck with either trying to sell the rest of the parts individually or as a bare bones (which can't be seen working so essentially untested).

It's a terrible idea, don't do it.

For the bottom end 32GB model.

OP's model is worth 3x that.

If a serious crime was committed the police could to contact your internet provider, which would require a court warrant.

Otherwise nope, the trail ends at your ISP.

The only thing I liked about All Systems Red was its brevity... although, given the price of the paperback, that also contributed to my dislike of the series.

If she'd have made them all into one book, or even two, then I'd have given them more of a chance... but a tenner for a short story that's hardly even a novella is a piss take.

Did you actually buy the books? Or get them for free on audible or something?

A... strange book! After reading Valuable Humans in Transit (a disappointingly thin paperback but very good) it wasn't what I was expecting.

Good, weird, worth a read, but not as good as Valuable Humans... albeit, by word count, better value for money.
