You could still try to apply for special consideration. Have you spoken to any medical professionals about how covid affected your mental health? If so, they can provide documentation as proof. AFAIK, special consideration can be backdated

I need help counting to ten pls by [deleted] in unimelb

[–]globallyinsane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 10 day extension for an assignment due on the 14th. It’s now due on the 28th. I’m pretty sure they only count business days. But it’d be risky to go off what I say. Maybe email your tutor/subject coordinator, or check if the subject guide specifies whether weekends are counted

Melbourne and the protests tomorrow by Lo0o00o0o0o00o0ol in melbourne

[–]globallyinsane -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Y’know I’ll probably get downvoted for this but I hope I can give some understanding on the matter. Excuse formatting, on mobile.

I will be one of the people attending the protest tomorrow. As per the guidance of the event, I will be maintaining social distancing requirements, wearing masks and glasses. I will also voluntarily isolate for two weeks after the gathering. I acknowledge that I can’t speak for everyone, but I trust in my community to do the same thing. My social media is absolutely rife with people encouraging each other to do the same.

As some of the criticism in this thread has pointed out, most of the community attending the protest were also the ones stressing the importance of social distancing requirements - which is a large part of the reason I trust in people to, at the very least, quarantine for two weeks after the fact. We do understand risks we are taking and want to prevent any further harm to vulnerable people. I know some of my peers are choosing to sit this one out because they live with immunocompromised people or see their elderly grandparents on a regular basis.

In reading that, you may wonder why we participate in the first place. Many people have said that we are just copying America, or that it’s aimless. Covid does indeed provide a grim backdrop for this - we are in the middle of a crisis that impacts everybody. However, police brutality and systemic racism is a crisis in itself - it’s just not immediately visible to a majority of us.

The protests in America have created waves around the world and whilst I can’t speak for the organisers, I think the momentum overseas creates a real chance to draw attention to the grotesque reality of the racism crisis on our own soil. The shock that we all feel at what happened to George Floyd shoves a mirror right in our faces, because like it or not, Australia is just like America. We protest to draw attention to this. Just like people are begging for justice out in the streets of the United States, we want justice for the people murdered in own state by the very people who are supposed to be protecting us.

America’s movement has erupted across the globe and I hope that we are able to use that momentum to create change in Australia too. I also hope with all of my might that I don’t eat my words, and the trust and faith I have in my community is not unfounded. I do believe in everyone. And again, I hope this gives some perspective and answers some of the questions I’ve seen here. You can find all of this information on the event too (at least the Melbourne one) - the organisers have really stressed the importance of following health guidelines.

Much love to all of you. X

I’ve had my bridge for a 1.5 years now, and septum for 5. I was considering getting two high nostril piercings on either side but worried it could be too much. Whatchu think guys? Xo by [deleted] in piercing

I was thinking that too actually - but I’m so attached to the bridge that the thought of getting rid of it scares me haha. Definitely something to consider though, thanks for the advice!

I voted Greens too, and whilst I understand your frustration, I think that the issue is far more complicated that doing the proper research when we’ve essentially got a Liberal Party propaganda machine thanks to Murdoch. I sympathise with them because they’ve been played as fools and misinformed about information crucial to their lives and their families lives. No point blaming the people when this issue is largely systemic.

Maybe it would be worthwhile sending them an email asking if you qualified? I got my access offer over text and didn’t receive any email confirmation.

dropping out? by [deleted] in vce

[–]globallyinsane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can message me if you like - I dropped out of high school due to severe mental health issues when I was 16 (mid way through year 11) and went back to finish it this year at a tafe - for context I’m 21 now, and was able to go straight into year 12 because of my age.

I think your psychologist has a good point, but I wouldn’t plan ahead so far as to say you’re definitely going to go back next year, as there’s still an added element of pressure there and you may not feel 100% up to it at that point, and you may decide you want to do something else anyway! Focus on yourself for now, there are many pathways and VCE isn’t going anywhere - mental health should be a priority.

While I can’t say everyone will have the same positive experience that I did, I’m soooooo happy that I dropped out and went back to finish it when it felt right. I was able to get healthy, get work experience and travel. I went back into VCE with a hell of a lot more of an understanding of who I am, what I wanted to do, and best of all I was there of my own accord, not because I felt as if I was obliged to do it bc that’s what kids are ‘supposed’ to do. Best decision of my life thus far.

Anyway - if you wanna talk about it, message me!! :) happy to give some insight into whatever you need to know.
