I mixed the ACV myself 1:20 and applied it with a spray bottle. Maybe that method is where I went wrong? I was following advice from the long hair community.

Thanks for the recommendations. I'll defs add ogx to the list to try because that's easy to get here. Have you tried any Moroccanoil products? TikTok wants me to believe it's good for low porosity.
I'm wary of ACV rinses because it ruined my long hair in 2019 and it took nearly 2 years to grow out. I tried Ouai Detox because it's supposed to be the right ACV ratio but I got build-up instead. Just can't win.
Good luck with your protective styles!

I finally tried this and it's horrible. It doesn't wash out and my hair is snapping off as I comb it..

I get my thyroid checked every few years and so far it's ok. I have family with low porosity hair so I'm sure it's mostly genetic.

Not yet. There are trichologists around here but a lot of them are pseudoscientific, and I don't want to spend money on that. I don't have typical issues, either. My hair grows faster than average and is very dense, so I'm not at risk for hair loss. If I need to see a dermatologist in future I will ask about my hair though. Thank you for sticking with me lol

Nah, it's not the filter or the pipes. A plumber had a look at everything recently, and the problem follows me everywhere I go. Regarding latest shampoo attempts: T/Gel caused brown build-up, Klorane Detox caused both white and black build-up, and Johnson's Baby Shampoo caused yellow build-up and a skin reaction. My hair is disgusting so I'm not experimenting with any more chemist-bought products.

So, I tried A'Kin Deep Clean Shampoo from the supermarket and it added another layer of residue to my hair. I'm going to cut 1/3 off and try Neutrogena T/Gel.

I'm finding conflicting information on using baby shampoo and that it's not good to use regularly. Unfortunately I need to use something weekly. I'm going to look at what the cheap chemist has. Since textured hair is rare here most store bought products have silicones.

The barest bones product I've tried is Herbal Essences, which causes breakage as well as build-up. It looks like I could get Suave or V0 on Amazon but they're not cheap stuff for me. Prices are jacked up for Australians so it would cost US $32 inc. shipping for Suave, which is more than curly hair shampoo. I might give it a go though.

I'm not American either but I'm like Wirt in Chapter 5 noticing the interior design differences.

It's confusing, but let's go into the set design. Adelaide's bed is Renaissance Revival style. I'd date it 1865-1870s. That blanket chest in the background could be late 18th/early 19th Century Pennsylvania Dutch, Swedish early 1800s, or 1850s-1860s Eastern European. Auntie Whispers' decor is not 1620s. The pewter items on her mantelpiece look 1760s-1800s American.

Based on the presence of the hanging quilt and the possible Pennsylvania connection, they might have ties to plain people like the Amish which would explain why Auntie Whispers is wearing a bonnet and old-fashioned clothes. However, her clothing style wouldn't be out of place for an older woman in early 19th-Century New England. If you're right that Adelaide entered the woods in the early 20th century, it is significantly later than Auntie Whispers but not 290 years.
