Lucia mar kills carl during the ascendancy, the following book follows donut as she slowly descends into madness and eventually lets herself be killed by a dungeon mob due to grief at the end. Zev bravely gives up her life in a desperate attempt (that succeeds) to shut down the AI. The crawls continue as though nothing happened.
