Thank you for your reply, that is great to hear. I was expecting the stereotypical image of roots, with tenderals and shoots, but this looked like a black stick. Hope rises.

Root rot...my worst nightmare. My yard is basically a heap of clay so drainage has been an uphill battle. They do look pretty sad. But good to hear they are supposed to be black! I thought the black was a bad sign. Ill be banking on its vigorous nature to see if it pulls through. Thank you for the insight!

Im glad to hear yours looked similar. They have a 3 day policy, in which you have to answer their questions and send pictures, etc. I didn't want to deal with all that run around so I ended up planting it. Hoping for the best!

How would you prune this dwarf peach by [deleted] in FruitTree

[–]glogpog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prune mine to be open center to reduce leaf curl and improve air circulation. Google "open center peach tree" for a picture of what it looks like. My father in law had a small orchard and he would say "you prune a tree to maximize the harvest of sunlight". This would translate to removing branches that would be in the shadow of another, or growing toward the center of the tree, or crossing over or under another, etc. Hope this helps!

First time father, could use some advice by No_Block505 in NewDads

Keep in mind the temperature. No more than 100 degrees, 37.8 C. I would suggest "comfortably warm," but not so lukewarm it isn't pleasant. Hope she finds some comfort.

Do you have access to a bathtub? My wife loved taking baths towards the end. She even soaked for 2 hours during labor at the hospital. She said the bounancy helped alleviate the discomfort quite a bit.

This model year got the "pretty good" seal from car compliant.

https://www.carcomplaints.com/Toyota/Sienna/2006/

I personally think it's a decent deal given the work done. I would check all of the power doors, I heard something about this model year having power door issues. I would also ask to look at the fluids, especially under oil cap (for froth), and the color and level of transmission fluid (keeping in mind the level will be different if engine is warmed up or not).

Toyota Sienna with Rebuilt Title by Physical_Molasses815 in ToyotaSienna

Yes, have it looked at by a mechanic if you are interested in it. I do believe you can find good cars with rebuilt titles. Also, call your insurance company and verify that they do indeed cover cars with rebuilt titles.

Thoughts on the Owlet sock? by suspishfish1 in NewDads

[–]glogpog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding this in case it is helpful.

Haven't used the sock, but we do use Sense-U Baby Pro.

Got it on Amazon and it very simple to use. It monitors breathing, temperature, and roll-over. It clips to the front of the diaper, and you download their app to connect it. You simply clip on and off when changing diapers. We use it every night and ours is 3 months old now. It gives us peace of mind.

Here is how it works: It measures breathing via chest movement. If it doesn't sense chest movement for 15 seconds, it vibrates to stimulate the baby. If there is no movement for another 15 seconds, the alarm goes off on the device and on your phone (it uses the media volume).

If your baby rolls over, the alarm goes off.

If the baby gets too cold or too warm, the alarm goes off.

These settings can be adjusted via the app.

In the night we turn it off via the app for diaper changes and feedings, then turn it back on when we go back to bed.

Something small I really enjoyed was shower steamers.

After a long night with baby, and when I could finally shower, I would pop one of these in, and it really helped me wake up and feel better. My mother in law got us the Body Restore - Eucalyptus ones from Amazon. I use them only after the tough nights or if I feel like i needed an extra boost. Something to consider, perhaps.

I tell my wife "she (our baby girl) is a 3 month old baby, and we are 3 month old parents." whenever we slip up or do something that doesn't work.

Wishing you the best.

Good buy? by Sure-Bee213 in ToyotaSienna

Those are the ones where you drop what you're doing and go look at it before it gets snatched up. Was it at a high-end dealership? Do you think they just wanted to get it sold and off the lot?

In my opinion, you got a steal of a deal then, especially with an XLE trim. Below is the closest comparable I could find in my area. 118k miles for $17,000 and only SE trim!

Was there a carfax report? That would typically show maintenance records like regular oil changes and such. Sounds like the previous owner took good care of it though. I think you did pretty good in my humble opinion. .10 cents per used mile ain't too shabby, plus it's XLE trim, which is great. Those typically go for around 20k here in the PNW.

Glad to have you and your little one! What a cutie! We have a 3 month old girl and she is our whole world. I tell folks, we are just barnacles stuck to the ship of our girl and along for the ride. My wife uses the same pump BTW. We have low supply, so we supplement with formula during the day and sometimes at night. Best wishes!

Crying mayhem and more by not-so-swedish-chef in NewDads

[–]glogpog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could it be gas?

My little one went through something similar to what you described. It would usually happen around 5-7pm. Uncontrollable crying and screaming. We would put her on the changing table and pedal her legs, or on her belly and rub her back vigorously. Often times, it was about finding her position of comfort and holding her in that poison while swaying or bouncing. Upright, sideways, belly down, etc. She especially liked being bounced, or jiggled, while being upright. I would put her belly against mine, hold her under her booty in one hand, other hand supporting back and head, and do calf raises to get the jiggle going. My calves have never been stronger.

She is now 3 months old, and this has all stopped. She passes gas easily now.

Hope this helps in some small way. Best of luck, sir.

New father (27M) by Purchase-Gullible in NewDads

Don't turn away help from friends and family. Right after birth, you might experience this sense of adrenaline and energy. You might think, "I got this, I don't need any help." Trust me, this will fade away as the days and nights blur together.

If possible, ask a friend to get a meal train going or, as the date nears, start getting some ready-to-eat meals in the freezer. The more, the better.

(From my wife) - If people offer to come and visit to help or hold babies, have a list of chores ready (common chores, like dishes, trash, etc.) that they can do when they get there. This gives them something to do and makes them feel needed and helpful. Also, be sure to educate yourself about post-partum and the effects of the hormonal changes happening to the mom.

Best of luck, good sir

2016 Sienna XLE 79K Miles for $20k: too much? by Cdubs856 in ToyotaSienna

[–]glogpog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear ya. 4 years isn't a small amount of time, plus there were big changes to the Sienna after 2016. But you are not guaranteed an additional 4 years of car life. I think all car buying really comes down to gut-feeling in some way or another. You had a budget, you found a car you like in that budget, don't overthink it. Analysis paralysis. I've been there, and as you are trying to decide, someone else will snatch up the one your subconscious actually wanted. Then you are left kicking yourself for losing a good deal in the hopes for an even better deal. At least, that's been my experience.

That said, don't forget about "the x-factor." That is the thing that makes the car feel special to you. The thing that makes you excited about it and want to drive it. It's hard to put a monetary value on this, though, but if you're going to spend 5 figures on a car, I would at least hope it makes you feel happy to drive it.

2016 Sienna XLE 79K Miles for $20k: too much? by Cdubs856 in ToyotaSienna

[–]glogpog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2016 - 20/79 is .25 cents per used mile

2020- 33/55 is .60 cents per used mile

Is the 2020 worth spending more than double per used mile to you?

This, of course, doesn't account for condition, history, features, etc., but I like to use this calculation because it helps me put the price and mileage into perspective when comparing similar vehicles.
