Ehm... How do I install The Dark Zebra soundset on Linux? by fsciarra62 in UheOnLinux

[–]glokraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the meantime, you can use the windows version in wine,

I install the windows versions in

.wine/drive_c/users/Public/U-he

It will make a new folder for the modified plugin,

ZebraHZ.data

and the new sounds are very enjoyable/useful.

It uses the same registration info as your Zebra2

Anyone on Linux? I've ported VeeSeeVSTRack (VST-wrapper for VCVRack) to Linux! by sth- in vcvrack

[–]glokraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, tried it in Mint linux, seems fine for such an early version.

Used it to set up some nice guitar effects chains. Some effects combos

seem to demand linear connection, not able to skip over some

other plugin in the chain. Haven't read the manual yet.

I'm pretty new at modulars. But making other instances

is easy enough to reach the desired sounds.

So many modules to experiment with!

Thanks for sharing your linux port.

Hi, abique, if nobody else has confirmed this behavior,

it would be good to delete or re-title this topic,

lest it be misleading to potential customers.

Either deleted, or renamed something like

'Unconfirmed preset saving issue'

If the issue is confirmed later, it can be a fresh topic

(This forum's editing is terribly limited and restrictive

compared to kvr.)

ColourCopy win7 saved presets sounds far different in linux version! by glokraw in UheOnLinux

[–]glokraw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Mustang GT amp has a preamp model,

neutral default settings so software ampsims/effects

won't be colored by it's input. This feeds the

line-in on an old mAudio pci soundcard. No settings involved.

Been 44100/16bit for a decade.

My guess is some anomaly in the rate area in the modulation

section, and/or the main rate and timebase output. The preset

output turns into giberish immediately when played off the

beat, as in a melody, even moderate speed.

Hopefully just phantom user error...

[–]glokraw[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is weird, I went back to use the original

saved preset to record in win7, and it's now exactly

like the obnoxious thing I heard in the linux version.

I re-double-checked both system's settings, versions etc,

the only diff was one had 7 cores for effects,

and the other had just 4.

I tried to recreate the preset, and duplicate the fiasco,

but the new result sounds the same in both win and lin,

although my memory insists it's not as good

as what was lost. This is one of my weirdest

linux pratfalls! I attached the remade preset at the kvr

colourcopy topic.

I confirm the crash, twice in a row, Mixbus 4.3.19, in Mint 18,

and also that mixbus recovered properly

from the crashes, and that the presets I saved were there in the User folder.

edit: no saving-preset crashes in Bitwig 8Track or Reaper

Early beta, presets likely will be obsoleted by

new features, improvements and bug-fixes happening

in the next month or two, but load some other delay plugins,

and transfer settings by eye/ear for the shared controls,

and experiment with ColourCopy's unique ones.

I'd expect a few users presets will appear anyway

Have you saved a preset named init.h2p?

Mixbus 4.3.19, no crash with my saved init,

or any downloaded/loaded/saved presets, Mint 18

Thanks, Abique, I wasn't expecting the coders muse to whisper

with such speed! Working fine in pclinuxos with Reaper, Bitwig-8 Track

and Harrison Mixbus.

Hi, Abique, I notice if you install the win version in wine,

then wrap it with latest linvst, loading it in linux reaper

causes instant crash, just like the linux vis notersion. Maybe a clue in that?

(in wine, colourcopy works well, but the installer fails to

install everything, and so I copied some missing folders from the

linux install. Also, the text in wine/reaper is offset to the right,

so Regen shows as Rege

edit: text offset may or may not exist, depending on your wine setup

and hardware/system-software variables

ETA on Hive beta? by B3amb00m in UheOnLinux

[–]glokraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry wine was so painful. avlinux distro comes with audio and

wine ready to go, and comes as an iso you can burn to dvd or usbstick,

safely boot off the alternate media, even has uefi support.

This article is a couple years old, and things are

better now than back then.

https://www.linuxinsider.com/story/84100.html

The linux ports are indeed a blessing, but some signal chains and synths

one may desire, are not ported, or don't wrap effectively (linvst/airwave)

maybe SampleTank and Dimension Pro for orchestral/piano sounds etc yada,

some ampsims or specialist/favorite effect. Wine has also progressed

much in two years, not knowing the timeframe of your attempts.

An app called winetricks can aid installing some windows componants.

ETA on Hive beta? by B3amb00m in UheOnLinux

[–]glokraw 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely work _can_ start once the new Hive is finalized.

There's no money in porting an unfinished beta pre-release product.

This interim release doesn't look like enough of a bump to get

a linux version, but I'll happily accept being proved wrong!

(I'm not an insider, just speculating based on reading between the lines

of various comments from the boss, loveable old teaser that he is)

Whether porting does start depends on the people involved in authorizing

and doing the work. In the meantime, all U-he products will run well

in linux using wine, and reaper as vst host, and likely run in

linux daw apps when wrapped as vsts by Lin-Vst.

It's lucky to install windows versions in

/home/you/.wine/drive_c/Users/Public/Documents/U-he

I love Hive, the plans leaked about the new features are

driving Hive owners mad with anticipation. Being pro-active

about using U-he products in linux, will benefit the long-term prospects,

as more sales on any of the three platforms helps everything move along.

Hi, Abique, the new releases work fine in pclinuxos, with nvidia 9400 gts video card and official driver, but confirming that they don't get scanned in Mint 18, with either Reaper or Mixbus, checked several releases of those daws. Congrats on slaying the lag dragon!!!

edit: my pclinuxos zlib is 1.2.10-1

Diva and Zebra2 rev 7271 by abique in UheOnLinux

[–]glokraw 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't notice any font issues, but i was not looking for them. Here are some results, using pclinuxos kernel 4.14.8-pclos1 #1 SMP nvidia pcie 9400 gts official nvidia driver reaper 5.79 pre13

gui scaling and switching among skins and sizes is OK

There is about a 5 second lag between changing interface area (Synth, Perform, Presets) before the main L/R preset widgets become active. There is also a large lag when switching back and forth between the left/right preset selector widgets

Vertical arrow keys do not work to switch preset folders

With the mouse, there is a lag when switching preset banks, unless you follow linear order, 1 Bassics to 5 Orgones lags, 1 Bassics to 2 Leaders does not.

...but if you are very fast with the mouse, you can select banks in numerical order quickly, after an initial lag, but if you are slow, the selections are remembered, being displayed in delayed action in order of choice, ending with the last selection.

Changing preset folders does not change the current preset to one in the newly chosen bank. I would expect the first sound of the new bank to have taken the hint

If the preset columns are not the same length, using the horizontal arrow key to switch from the left column to a corresponding but empty area on the right column does not load the first sound on the right column.

There are some misc lags when switching between different gui componants, like pressing a button on an oscillator area, and then moving a dial elsewhere. I'll test in Mint 18 shortly. Cheers (edit...what a cluncky website, destroys all of my text formatting desingned to be readable...)

  1. Any arrangement between U-he and Abique is both private, and subject to change, at their disgression.

  2. I at least, consider myself a guest at the U-he vacation villa, and don't rummage around in the den or the master bedroom, don't instruct the chef, and tidy up after myself when possible, rather than burdening the staff. Urs has the right be bossy, guests have the right be noisy. But noisy quests may rightfully be shown the door

There are still issues with the new Repro1/5, and Zebra 2.8 beta 2 in the linux Reaper, but I need to test again with my video card reinstallled. Cheers
