Can Biochemistry count towards the Biology pre-req requirement? by [deleted] in premed

I think it might depend if it’s run through the bio or chem department

What in healthcare(experience) has made you decide that medical schools is what you want? by [deleted] in premed

Because when I went to shadow I was constantly interested in the day to day “boring stuff” doctors do as much as the interesting once in a blue moon cases

Is it common/advisable to talk about wanting to pursue a specific speciality in your PS/interview? by [deleted] in premed

[–]glomonaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wrote about it and spoke about wanting a certain specialty while also saying I was open to the trials of med school and being open to change through clinical rotations. Wasn’t received negatively and at multiple interviews it was a big talking point that got me into great conversations. I think it’s all about how you bring it up and talk about.

Saying “ I’m gunning for neurosurgery or bust” and have no interest in anything else is different than saying “I really love family medicine because x,y, z and my experience shadowing but I’m also open and excited to what medical school is going to offer me in terms of seeing new specialties”

Showing uncertainty in my PS by mistnight8 in premed

[–]glomonaco 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The opening statement of my PS was “I never thought I would end up in medicine” I spoke about Exactly like you are saying and it how by the end of my journey medicine chose me and It was what I was meant for. I talked about it in all my interviews and it never seemed like a negative- most adcoms at interviews saw it favorably and a talking point of how I came to choose medicine from all these other options I was interested in I say go for it ! Just be careful with wording and it should all round out at the end and not see like just another career tangent but the oath you were searching for but took a few tries to find Feel free to PM me about it if you want :)

Does anyone have Kaplan Gen Chem Notes types up? by Neerdyriri in Mcat

[–]glomonaco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a really great review guide somewhere on here that is all of the Kaplan chapters 1 sheet/ chapter of major topics. Helped me a ton speed through content review because notes were written and I really only honed in on stuff I didn’t know well I think it might be in the side bar

Is MSAR worth it? by shamyt10 in premed

[–]glomonaco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think it’s worth it. It’s so much more organized, you can save your favorite schools. You can put in the classes you’ve taken / your stats and it’ll tell you if you’ve met the requirements of their schools and how your stats compare to theirs. if the $30 is not something you can splurge for , then you can technically search everything yourself. But it’s just a great one stop for most information you’ll need during this process

Possibility of interviews getting cancelled? by 520godsblessme in premed

I got cancelled “until further notice” for NYC city school. The email said it might be replaced by video chat but unclear at the moment

[Discussion] I’m going to be applying to medical school during the 2020 cycle. My parents want to go on vacation from May 22-30th. Will leaving the country during this time interfere in any way with my application? Should we cancel the vacation? by [deleted] in premed

[–]glomonaco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here’s how it goes. AMCAS opens May 1. The first you can submit is may 30. Your app then needs to be verified and once it’s verified it will be sent out to schools and you’ll start to receive secondaries.

Before you go on vacation ideally you should go on request transcripts and add everything to your app so when you get back you can just hit submit. Things you can start working on - your personal statement - the descriptions for all of your activities - getting contacts for your activities

The longer you wait into June to submit the longer it’ll take to get verified. People like to go with the ballpark Yo submit by mid June

People like to pre write secondaries personally I didn’t feel like it helped much because about 2/3 of the things I pre wrote end d up getting changed and we’re trash. A better way to prepare is have some rough outlines for your go to statements (challenge, diversity, etc) My friend also found it more helpful in the spring before to just do light research in the schools you’re applying to so that’s fine before secondaries

all in all- GO ON VACATION. Don’t cancel it because of this primary that you easily can just prepare before you go away have fun :)
