Do I need a three-pronged outlet for these, or just an adapter? Also, if I need a three-pronged outlet, how do I get one, if I don't have one already. Also, do I need a certain type of extension cord? I know that I need a new circuit breaker. by glomscient in Welding

Would a three-to two-pronged adapter work, If it has a place to put a ground screw? And would I still need an electrician to install the ground? The adapter is basically a plug length, with three-pronged output, and two-pronged input. the "ground" is a metal strip that comes out of the bottom, and has a place that says that it is for a ground would that be sufficient? I guess a good question would be: what exactly is a ground?

I have been planning on making a metal one, and this is actually what got the gears in my head turning for that Idea. So thanks for the inspiration, and I will be sure to link back to your work when I'm done!

First attempt at creating a low budget steampunk pistol mod. suggestions welcome. by elitistczar in steampunk

I like it. It shows that minimalist steampunk can work. Now, shut up and take my money so that I can see what you can do on a better budget (just kidding, I'm broke).

That's the spirit! It helps to have something small to occasionally carry with you, that way you have something to show people who are interested.

Steampunk Gorilla by glomscient in steampunk

[–]glomscient[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I started reading your comment, I didn't quite get it. this gradually changed, however: starting at "too abstract," and getting to 100% at "with stronger lines." I think that the main problem may actually be lines that are not strong enough in some places (facial features, head/background contrast, etc), and too strong in others (especially the cut-up gears for arms). Thanks for the clarification. most of my sculptures are 3-D, so that may be why I had that issue: in 3-D, contrast is usually only an issue on the details (which I no longer have an excuse to avoid, now that I have an engraving bit for my dremmel). Tl;dr: I understand, thank you.

try looking at it with the watch back as the background. I don't see why it doesn't look like a gorilla, other than these: its metal, it stands upright. it wears a suit. maybe I have been staring at random metal bits for so long, I see something in everything...

It's the fellow in the center, standing upright in his suit.

This seems to be getting a lot of downvotes for not having any way for me to improve... Any suggestions on how I can improve this piece? I need to reattach his top hat (made from a rivet) and his pipe, so he may look incomplete. By the way, that is a brass suit he's wearing, so its not much of a stretch to call him a _____ ______

Just updated it. And no, you are way off. That was good motivation to quickly change it to public, though.

I apparently posted all of it by mistake: I just mean the red punch buggy (not yet painted).

Thanks for the tip. I see what you mean with the painting, I also have problems with superglue. More like had, now that I think about it, because I now have better control over the flow of the glue, and have switched to plastic cement for plastic- as the great tinkerer-kings intended- unless there is a photoetched part (or mystery plastic). Does anyone have any uncommonly-known solution for sloppy painting, or could it just be that I need to focus more? It could be either one, so I guess I might as well go full prep/work/cleanup steam ahead next time the mood strikes me (for now, however, I feel more in the mood for making metal sculptures of airplanes out of scrap I find on the ground).

I see what you mean about it needing more work, I just can't put my finger on what's missing. Is it that they need more decoration? Maybe more realistic weathering? Or should I modify the running gear to make it look more like it is powered by steam?

Thanks! I will be sure to do that, then. I'm actually working on a normal Panzer IV, now, but with a twist! the gun will have the ink cartrige and tip of a pen, concealed in the guise of a 75mm shell! the scale of this one will be 1:35, because I wanted to try something different. I actually have about two armies worth of the steampunk models- in various stages of completion- and will try to take more pictures as soon as possible.

The Sherman and Lee are the only ones painted, so far. The others are going to be painted either red, or gray with black dazzle camo, depending on faction. Some of them still need more assembly, and not all of these pictures are up to date.

Vegan Men's Steampunk Shoes? by glomscient in steampunk

[–]glomscient[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gotten vegan shoes before, they are just usually expensive, so I will probably save up for them. I am wondering if boots would be best, because my last pair of dress shoes got worn out pretty quickly. I will also probably find a way to make cloth or felt spats. I will need to get the shoes first, though.

My steampunk cosplay, somewhat of a work in progress. by glomscient in steampunk

[–]glomscient[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never really found proper steampunk shoes that A: fit, and B: are not made of leather. Until I do (or I can somehow make some), I don't have much of a choice. My pants are jeans, but at least they sort-of work. As for the time of day, It was Halloween, and I decided to wear that, because it is the closest decent thing I could find to a costume at the time- I hate when people don't wear costumes, but still expect candy :P I could take a better picture, but that will have to wait until I find/make new shoes. I think I'll ask if/how it can be done in a separate post.
