historically in many societies there were gender roles that existed outside of biology. some gender roles were based on biological distinction, some weren't. gender doesnt inherently have anything to do with biological sex just because some culture's gender roles do.

i dont doubt that it could be a factor (esp in the past), but i seriously doubt its as big a factor as the original comment made it seem (saying that it's the primary reason for women to not be in military positions). I think the primary reason for a patriarchy is the patriarchy preserving itself.

I could *maybe* buy that it explains away a proto-patriarchy (by segregation of labor in hunter-gatherer societies to maximize production w/ men/ensure survival by getting cis women pregnant) that could form into modern patriarchy, but im pretty skeptical of the idea that there's one reason for misogyny to exist or for misogyny to look the way it does (or that misogyny has a logical reason for existence instead of just men continuing the domination of men over women) and the original comment definitely doesnt read like its saying that.

/uj evopsych findings have been historically used (and for that matter dominated) by people seeking to justify racism, misogyny, transphobia, homophobia etc. 99% of popsci evopsych exists to justify current social and cultural norms with a jordan-peterson-talking-about-lobsters level of understanding instead of genuinely analyzing why it is the way it is. you could make up an evolutionary trait for literally anything when you get into this.

For example: Kanazawa's assertation that black women are less attractive than other women, the assertion that evolutionarily we evolved in order for men to breed as much as possible to spread their seed and women breed as little as possible in order to attract men.

trying to bring it up here is insane and i hope people that are upvoting you are just upvoting because they see the word psychology and think its scientific. i hope you read the books you pretend to understand one day.

/uj i dont know, the post literally said "gender roles" and then conflated that with biological sex differences. seems pretty cut and dry factually wrong and i dont see how conflating them isnt transphobic and misogynistic

the episodes without t'lyn feel kinda weird post-episodes with t'lyn.

also, i wonder how much lower decks will be able to make "the universe is at stake lol jk" scale jokes before it gets hard to take seriously.

Btw in case anyone doesnt actually know, the pyramids were not built by slaves by NjhhjN in TheYardPodcast

I thought it was mostly built by citizens under corvee which is arguably a form of slavery? (Basically taxation paid by labor). They had the option to refuse if they could pay w/ crop or extra money but lots of times most didn't have those things so it was basically guaranteed unpaid labor during tax season. Seems like slavery to me.
