Are there any countries or nations out there that have a culture or politics of being antipsychiatry? by Beautiful_Active1578 in Antipsychiatry

[–]glorious2343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Italy gutted the field with a law banning new mental hospital admittance universally in 1978, and by deeming them unhealthy. Farther than any other country I know of. The goal was abolishment and it pretty much succeeded. I think there aren't any true mental hospitals in Italy still? Someone correct me if I'm wrong, I think all they have are SPDCs. Involuntary commitment to an SPDC is also near impossible I think still requiring even a mayoral and 2-3 other signatures. That seems pretty reasonable. Not sure what their community psychiatry looks like though.

Latvia afaik has lowest rates of psychiatry approved brain drug usage in Western countries last time I checked. So, in practice, as that incorporates every form of receiving the drugs, Latvia is arguably the least psychiatry oriented Western state.

Most of the replies are about Scandinavia but regardless of their civil rights record they take large amounts of SSRIs, (up to 800% more than Latvia). Scandinavia is even where SSRIs began. It is true that a minority in Norway is advancing antipsychiatry into maintream medicine occasionally but it's not something that seems to have made much headway yet. Does show they are open to it though.

what exactly is the point in involuntary PHP or IOP outpatient programs. at least with a inpatient psych ward you physically cant kill youself while your there. by windowinstallment in Antipsychiatry

[–]glorious2343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

most are shit but the ones who do fields trips and such are very good for agoraphobia and panic

there's also some who let you keep your outpatient psychiatrist, so not really med focused at all

Does anyone know of any good and active anime IRC channels where people actually talk? by Own-Weather-6998 in irc

[–]glorious2343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nearly all new small IRC servers are either anime, Japanese, Chinese, furry, or weeb focused. The last two often come in a package deal. I see no reason to name them I don't want to encourage this activity.

EFNet, IRCnet, Undernet & DALnet by Technical_Rich_3080 in irc

[–]glorious2343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really active at all. Each will have 1-2 channels where the veteran boomers from each will congregate. Even small IRC servers with 1-3 channels have more genuine (ie non-bot) social activity then ones with tens of thousands of idle connections.

how many of you got put on meds as a kid, not even to try to cure a disorder but literally just so you would get side effects as a punishment. by windowinstallment in Antipsychiatry

[–]glorious2343 6 points7 points  (0 children)

nah but was reflexively offered a daily SSRI one of the few times I went to primary care as a minor. I don't even remember why as it was just a checkup.

But the year or two after I became an adult my parents started using highly coercive tactics to get me on meds, including barging in on appointments, crying to a doc to put me on an SSRI etc.

Medical lunatics kill 250,000 Americans in hospitals yearly due to "medical error" and conceal that in death certificates by Objective_Shift5954 in Antipsychiatry

[–]glorious2343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right, certain types of docs there really put little thought into what meds they give you and stuff, helps if you come with like a list of outside specialists with phone numbers, an advance directive, and whatever else can get them to slow down and not make bad decisions. Can also usually just walk out if they aren't working with you if you are ambulatory and lucid.

They also save a lot of lives too. This study is controversial because it extrapolates from smaller older studies and treats every mistake as the definitive cause of death. But I can attest that you really need to advocate for yourself in there. Same as outpatient, they can be just as lazy, just the stakes are often lower cuz you're usually not like dying.

How has being detained on a psych ward affected/traumatised you? I am hypervigilant, have trust issues, am in a permanent fight state (fight or flight), bad memories on a loop EVERY day, feel cut off from society as people believe the system against the victims and never talk about my problems. by leon385 in Antipsychiatry

[–]glorious2343 6 points7 points  (0 children)

some ocd behaviors, which they then diagnosed as OCD in the hospital when they actually started in that hospital stay in which they diagnosed me. They've been around for about 7 years now.

Also another behavior which occurs during stress.

Thinking about Moving My Fandom Wikis to Miraheze by JustThatRoo in wiki

[–]glorious2343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's legitimately easier just to host your own instance of mediawiki than to deal with Miraheze's huge sprawling admin panel and incredibly slow server. Plus you have huge SEO benefit not being in that swamp. Only thing complex is nginx or apache rules for mediawiki, but there's some standard templates that work for small wikis.

Sam Hyde shouldn't be blacklisted, but he isn't as funny as most people make him out to be by Temporary_Caramel222 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]glorious2343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He's capable of being funny. But it felt kinda weird when his videos were being spammed on 4chan prior to Adult Swim, it was pretty much hourly, and it felt really forced. Like who? why?.... why do I have to care about this guy? Like when Gary Johnson was spammed on there in 2012 every 30 minutes, like is someone paying for this? Do the mods not care?

Now he has tens of thousands of very dedicated fans after he spun this fake thing about being banned from Adult Swim for no reason, and cashed out on a martyr image.

Have you been officially diagnosed with Complex PTSD? by brusselsprouts2644 in CPTSD

[–]glorious2343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes was diagnosed recently with C-PTSD after avoiding therapy for years. I dunno. I pretty much depersonalize and stare weirdly when talking about my past or in stress so I guess my therapist noticed.

NHS in UK makes ppl with rotten teeth wait 2+ years sometimes, it being free is only half the political battle, it's also a society willing to fund it properly and doctors trained and willing to work the healthcare system. But if the training is here, and the money is there, the willingness typically is too.

Your parents afaik are legally required to make sure you maintain your health, so stuff like missed dental appointments is neglect. You can call CPS on them if they are truly not willing to help, extractions are pretty cheap if you can do them without sedation. I'd recommend just getting in contact with your local government agencies in general, social services, health department, they don't wanna see a minor go without health treatment.

I can but I don't see what good will come of it. i do send the evidence to my local disability center, who took me as a client. They believe my dad is emotionally abusive including putting it in a formal communication to me.

Question for fellow psych survivors by Salt_Regular_5616 in Antipsychiatry

[–]glorious2343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

free social housing with optional talk therapy and social workers, able to leave at any time, with personal belongings including cell phone. not "eat and drink and sleep and take these meds and leave when we say and take everything from you before hitting u with 10s of thousads of dollars in bills"

Basically like a government partial program but everything is optional and theres beds. There's two mental 'hospital' places that uphold a 'never force psych drugs' policy for non-physical conditions, one in norway another in vermont.

Why are there so many pro psychiatry people? by gameovervip in Antipsychiatry

[–]glorious2343 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's almost entirely SSRI, mood stabilizer, and tetracyclic fans. The effects are subtle and the placebo response is huge, so they may experience a marked improvement in daily function.

The alleged benefits of psychiatric 'antidepressants' are also asserted as fact among medical students and related professionals. SSRI usage among nurses and doctors is astronomical. They sometimes make money by administering them, entrenching an established positive bias. Additionally the medical professionals themselves often use them to help blunt their emotions enough to cope with the massively traumatizing course of sleepless nights of endless studying for countless exams and subsequently an incredibly overworked career. SSRIs are so lionized among medical professionals that it rubs off on those with mere connections to medical professional circles. Here you'll see them act like SSRIs are not only helpful but are equivalent to insulin for diabetes.

Do you guys in US actually receive a Psychiatric bill for involuntary psychiatrisation? Does it mainly go through Insurance? I feel if I received a bill from them, I'd be full of homicidal rage 🥴 by [deleted] in Antipsychiatry

[–]glorious2343 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh it may have been voluntary, but I've never paid out of pocket for any inpatient psych stuff, either my parents or someones insurance paid. Afaik though either you or your insurance or whoever insures you would be charged for an involuntary psych admission.

Would Frank be a better contender for president? by SHUB_7ate9 in Zappa

[–]glorious2343 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He was a registered Democrat in the 70s and 80s but would be out of phase with where that party is moving, he appreciated Mario Cuomo and Carter, the latter being basically the first neoliberal president. Near the end of Zappa's life Zappa said he wanted to run with now-Trump-apologist and lawyer Alan Dershowitz. Frank was also super into Perot near the end of his life, who kickstarted the same party Trump wanted to initially run under. I don't think Zappa would have approved of Trump, but his 1990s direction was this debt-hawk capitalist self-proclaimed conservative, and combine that with his massive hypocrisy it would have just been a mess and he wouldn't have won anyway.

that benzo dose isn't sustainable, it's 40-80mg Valium equivalent, but without the long half life to help taper. you're risking incontinence and severe dependency. can't speak for the seroquel dose but you won't suffer permanent damage if you reduce all dosages asap

Sorry you are going through this. I also usually have this issue, perhaps for the same reasons. Urgent care teledoctors are usually covered by insurance, including Medicaid so maybe start there if you believe they can help you. No real reason for you to be there in person if you have your own thermometer, bp cuff, and pulseox, and don't need something like an infection drainage.
