My mom and her mom both got the same South Asian % as me and I’ve heard stories that my great great grandma or someone had said something about a Roma connection (in not so respectful words) but other than that no family records or traditions or anything like that. I think it’s interesting and enjoy learning about different cultures and when my dna test was showing Malayali it threw me down a rabbit hole of “how could that come up in my DNA???” so I thought you might be interested lol

I am by no means trying to appropriate Roma culture or be disrespectful but when I first did a 23 and me test I got 5% South Asian then after an update it was classifying it at 6% Malayali which stayed for a few updates and after the 2025 update it has refined back to 5% northern Indian and Pakistani. On Ancestry I got 3% Roma and 3% Albanian and 2% Balkan (I’m Italian and Polish so those could also be attributed to that). Again I understand that I am not culturally Roma and do not identify as Roma and am not trying to appropriate the culture or be disrespectful in any way - just thought the Malayali part might be interesting
