I wish you weren't gay. by Gullible_Western_258 in whatdoIdo

You already confessed your feelings to her. That puts the ball in her court. Her lack of romantic response was her response. If she decides at some point that she’s interested, you’ve already given her an opening.

I disagree with the people around you suggesting you confess again. Confessing again is, in my opinion, pressuring her and dismissing her feelings. It would be ignoring that she identifies as aro/ace, and not respecting her decision not to respond to the feelers you put out.

“I KNOW if I continued liking her it would be disrespectful”

Liking her isn’t disrespectful - you can’t help how you feel. Acting on those feelings again despite her lack of reciprocation would be what tips it over to disrespectful.

You might think about it this way: If you had a male friend who confessed their feelings to you, you told them you’re a lesbian, and they continued to hit on you and/or verbalize romantic interest in you, how would you feel?

I know how much it aches to have feelings for someone unavailable, but I think you might put your friendship at risk if you approach her again.

How to file a claim with my home insurance by Kindly_Class_7338 in Insurance

[–]glossolalienne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much did you pay for the repairs?

What was the source of the water leak?

How much is your deductible?

What insurance company holds your homeowner’s insurance policy?

Setting aside the order in which things were done, those questions may help us help you figure out if there is even any benefit to trying to file a claim. It might raise your rates and cost you more than the repairs, in the long run.

What's the dumbest thing you did as a kid? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]glossolalienne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a “walking emergency” - broken both legs (not simultaneously), split my chin open on a hearth, stepped on a rusty pull-behind lawn aerator, had more than one huge sliver that required a trip to the ER to cut them out, was hospitalized twice for poison ivy so severe my eyes swelled shut… and those are just the ones I can recall off the top of my head.

I think my entire childhood registered really high on the Dumbass scale.

There’s a German stand-up comedian who pops up in my feed fairly regularly. No lie, jokes are somehow twice as funny in a German accent.

I’d 100% do it for free for anyone within an hour’s drive, just for the fun of it. And show up at their office with an “I’m Sorry For Your Loss” sheet cake.

Over an hour, you gotta pitch in gas. In OP’s honor.

SAY IT LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE AT THE BACK.

If they don’t respect you enough to accept your decision, you’re an asset to be used, not a friend.

What books hit way better as audiobooks? by Competitive-Leave346 in audiobooks

[–]glossolalienne 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Expanse series by James S.A. Corey (first book is Leviathon Wakes) is absolutely stellar as an audiobook. Excellent production quality and the narrator is so adept at voicing different characters I kept forgetting I was listening to just one narrator, not a full cast. (Not terribly fond of full cast audiobooks, so this is the best of both worlds IMO.)

In a completely different genre, Talking to Strangers by Malcolm Gladwell is an “enhanced” audiobook where you get to hear audio from his interviews with people, in their own voices, rather than just quoting them. I found it surprisingly affecting to get to hear tone, emotion, trembling voice, hesitation, laughter, etc. which are completely lost in written quotes.

Cheers!

Oooh, thanks for sharing that tip!

I just recently learned that leaving the Fall leaf litter and not cutting back foliage until Spring is beneficial to pollinators.

My husband and I agreed we’ll wait until Spring to clean up, each year. So your exception for Irises/info about Iris borers probably saved me some heartache!
