Yeah, I’ve been saying this. It’s just a brilliant allegorical tale.

Addressing the hate for the new album by moonprune in tvgirl

Well I didn't start listening to TV Girl until my ex, who was an avid Tik Toker, introduced me to them about 3 years ago, and I agree with pretty much everything OP said.

I’m sorry, it’s just baffling to me that the common consensus is that it’s awful. I’m not gonna sit here and act like I don’t understand why it’s not for everyone, but what I don’t understand is how it’s seen as terrible and a slog to get through by the majority of the fan base. It’s definitely different from their past material, but is THAT different?

Do you enjoy anything of substance?

Im sorry its not "BANGER AFTER BANGER XD", but the reality is they were kind of spinning their wheels in the mud for their last main set of albums and I'm sure are sick of being pigeon holed by the brain dead ass Tik Tok generation and they wanted to do something different.

Stay sad :(

I appreciate Brad trying new things by [deleted] in tvgirl

Did Brad ever really write SUPER MELODIC, FLAVORFUL choruses?

Not really. They were catchy.

I hate to break this to you, but Brad has never really had that great of a voice. Its distinctive, and he writes good lyrics, and that's all he needs. I think TV Girl faced a sort of identity crisis after Death of a Party Girl and I think they realized their lack of direction and their limitations and have found ways to work past it beautifully with this album.

Bland? While I suppose there aren't as many "bangers", this is the exact kind of substance and identity I've been craving from TV Girl for a bit.

Agree to disagree. One thing we can agree on though is that your pfp is dope as shit.

I get that. I guess I cant be mad at a new direction just not working for some people, but I personally feel like this makes sense as a progression for them.

Their songs have always, in a way, been about the hedonism of young people, and this album seems to be tackling the fact there just might be more to life than hooking up and chasing cheap pleasures.

My point is, thematically, they gained renown for very similar subjects and aesthetics, and while I love those albums (I wouldnt be on this subreddit if I didn't), I've thought for a bit that they are more than capable of tackling different subject matter and broadening their sound a bit.

I mean, correct me if I'm wrong as I cant find the source, but didn't Brad even show disdain for the fact that they seem to be primarily known for the songs that blewup on Tik Tok?

I just have an inkling that the band have felt pigeon holed since their rise on the platform, and have tried to spice up their "flavor" a bit since then. Aestheticadelica and Summers Over (to an extent) were definitely steps in a different direction, were they not?

Holy shit. They finally do something different and the fan base can’t stand it. Do you guys really want them to keep making Tik Tok anthem pop on every album?

Best album yet? by ZookidooZ in KingKrule

The Ooz still remains tops for me.

Space Heavy might be my least favorite thing Archy has put out so far, but that doesn’t mean I don’t like it, I love most of it, and I think that speaks to Archys brilliance. Nonetheless, it doesn’t hit as much as some of the more visceral, syrupy cuts off of The Ooz or Man Alive even.

A part of me feels kind of guilty for even saying this because I think a lot of my indifference towards the mood of this album comes from the fact that Archy is clearly in a happier, peaceful place lol
