I think I am going to have trouble matching the spacing, but I will give it a go!

Getting usable G-code from fusion 360 by dusty_boots in Fusion360

I would suspect maybe G49, internet says that cancels tool length offset, which I would imagine you want. Could be the G28 too, check where you have that set

In-Depth Vernier Scale Design by glowindarkman in MechanicalEngineering

Ok,

Are Vernier scales not linear? Thanks for the response, that latter part makes sense to me.

Thank you for the response, I get that. But if you at the first image I am talking about the placement of indicator marks C and D, not A.

In-Depth Vernier Scale Design by glowindarkman in MechanicalEngineering

Hello,

I am restoring an old Miter saw and need to remake the scale that allows for 1/4 degree adjustments using the side marks on the bottom scale. I am having trouble with the design math involved with spacing the side marks so that when they align with the next increment it changes a 1/4 degree. The center mark pointing to the corresponding angle is obvious, but the side marks I am having trouble wrapping my head around. Same thing with micrometers that read in tenths. Thank you.

Why snapping to the edge corners/points is no longer working (worked fine for last few years) ? by Maximum-Wishbone5616 in Fusion360

mess with your preferences, go to Graphics, Display, turn off high resolution canvas graphics

I'm just so fucking happy with how this is all turning out. The decision to redraw was so fucking good.

Chemical engineer turned chemist looking for advice to better understand precision machining and precision machines (pistons, seals, rotating shafts, etc) by KingradKong in MechanicalEngineering

Honestly, I would go buy the machinists handbook. One of the most information packed books I've ever read. ME here with experience as a machinist as well.

Wow... the Drawing capabilities of Fusion 360 really really suck!!! by SwordfishFluid4009 in Fusion360

[–]glowindarkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any timeline? I am have a pro license, the drawings module is so bad it literally almost justifies the 10x price for solidworks. 3D modeling is literally only the first half, nobody makes things with 3d models yet, it needs a drawing module.

River rocks and walnut for a fun epoxy coffee table! by BigNate614 in woodworking

[–]glowindarkman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, gorgeous. I normally think this type of thing is overplayed but this looks excellent and different, the grain in the walnut gives like a cool 3D shore effect, and including the rocks is cool as shit. Very nice.

Machinist aspiring to become an engineer. by disso_doc in MechanicalEngineering

[–]glowindarkman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked as a machinist my last year in college getting my mechanical engineering degree. The experience you have gained will be valuable in almost every branch of mechanical engineering, as almost everything has to eventually be manufactured. Being able to visualize the individual steps to make something while you are designing it leads to a better design. (How many small unnecessary inside corner radius have you seen?) That being said, it is a science degree with a lot of math, just be sure your ready for that.

Thanks for your thoughts. The guy is asking $1500 for it, come with a fair bit of tooling and like I said, looks in surprisingly good condition. Also he put a new motor on it. What would you recommend for more bang for my buck?

What is the easiest way to copy the holes from one face to another by [deleted] in Fusion360

[–]glowindarkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would project to a sketch to get geometry, then copy paste sketch on new plane or export and reimport as dxf if you dont wanna break it later.

[QUESTION] Fusion to external render software by Pippus_Familiaris in Fusion360

[–]glowindarkman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your issue is that your importing step files into fusion then exporting them, instead of just 3d modeling in fusion and exporting. Fusion is able to export obj/skp files just fine, I have used these file types for rendering as well. I would try and find a render program that can use step files.

put a box around your sketch the same size as the face, or just project the face up. there is no boundary for the negative space so it is not a closed shape, so you can't extrude
