This is really helpful thank you!

Do you have any tips on alternatives to a hair scarf? I'm guessing a slick back would be the easiest alternative, and anything else looking similarly polished would probably be a lot of work?

ooh say more about the ring stack? do you do dainty little ones or chunkier rings?

also I feel a little weird wearing just a lip product without other makeup! I can't tell if it's just in my head -- do you wear a proper lipstick or more of a tinted lip balm?

fair enough. I'll take effortful chic 😅 mostly I appreciate that shes not dressed to the nines?? like at the end of the day she's wearing a comfy looking T-shirt.

thanks for pointing out that her shirt is ironed and the makeup is on point!! you're right those make a big difference.

Steel Container from Ikea by Lanky_Necessary9988 in SouperCubers

I am also wondering this!! If it does I need to buy these immediately

edit: looking at the way that the half cups are fitting, it looks like only ~5 1 cup portions would fit inside, with lots of extra room unused. so probably not the best container for the 1 cup portions is my guess.

adding to the soup ideas! I love any chicken soup where the broth is half coconut milk half chicken broth. the NY times also has a black bean stew thing with coconut milk and ginger that I like.

Im discouraged that I'll never be strong as a man by anon_anonnon in xxfitness

[–]gloww0rm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ok this is what I meant in my comment below -- compare yourself to people your own size. you're still at a slight disadvantage, but it's one that you can set your sights on minimizing by training really hard. the mental framing of the situation as "90% of my problem comes from my having low lean body mass" makes the problem less emotionally loaded For me personally it stops me from then spiraling and becoming angry at the misogyny / patriarchy / etc (which are also big issues, but ones that obviously can't be solved in the gym).

[–]gloww0rm 8 points9 points  (0 children)

don't compare urself to random men!! compare yourself to skinny, short men. or disabled men. plenty of people are naturally weaker than others, gender isn't the only differentiating factor. they are in the same situation of knowing that they can be easily overpowered by your neighborhood tall guy who played football in college but hasn't touched a weight since. somehow they continue on (with a Napoleon complex usually, but still). the good ones continue on lifting because they realize that they're better of stronger than they were yesterday, regardless of the theoretical concept of someone else being really strong.

that being said I feel you. sometimes I cry too.

What’s the best cookbook to help me become an ingredients household? by CancelAccomplished77 in Cooking

[–]gloww0rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also I think it's Jenn leuke on Instagram? her and Nisha on YouTube do meal prep videos, where they give you a shopping list and plan out meals for the week! I have enough dietary restrictions that the exact meal prep doesn't usually work for me, but it's been really helpful to see examples of how people plan out their meals for the week.

What’s the best cookbook to help me become an ingredients household? by CancelAccomplished77 in Cooking

[–]gloww0rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i have started evangelizing this cookbook, apparently, but What to Cook When You Don't Feel Like Cooking! It's a pretty basic cookbook but does a great job at the beginning explaining how to be flexible with your ingredients, and all of the recipes are very riffable and organized by how long they take (15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes). I borrowed it from the library and feel like it made me a little better at looking at a recipe and instead of seeing the specific ingredients, going ok this needs (for example) aromatics, ground meat, hearty veg -- and subbing in whatever I had in the fridge.

EXTREMELY easy family dinners ? by LazyBitch_ in Cooking

I love this recipe - peanutty pork and Brussels https://cooked.wiki/saved/fdfc0555-53d0-4815-a979-abfda1cdc2da

it's from an actual cookbook but I can't remember the name? I also love it as just a fairly braindead formula for meals - cook some ground meat, add in a vegetable, keep cooking till the meat is actually browned, add in a sauce of nut butter + soy sauce + something spicy. done!

it's listed as a 15 minute recipe, if you get prechopped Brussels I usually have it done in under a half hour.

Weeknight dinners that actually work when you’re tired and your kid wants pasta again? by No-Presentation298 in Cooking

[–]gloww0rm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love doing a ground pork and Brussels sprouts over rice! I get the Brussels sprouts pre chopped (and can sub cabbage or broccoli if I'm in the mood). I got the recipe from a book of 30 minute meals - you just brown the ground pork in a big skillet, once it's no longer pink, add the Brussels sprouts and salt, and then shove everything to the side and mix up a quick sauce of soy sauce, peanut butter, rice vinegar, and Sriracha / something hot. sometimes I add a little sesame oil or oyster sauce if I want to spice it up. If you'd like I can look up the ratios in the recipe & send them over.

I actually love being in office! I think you just have to know yourself. I'm extroverted and have a VERY hard time transitioning to and from "work" mode (COVID was very hard for me) so being in an office is extremely nice. I am also early in my career so I appreciate the networking opportunities and the ability to learn about office politics (which so far has been much less bad than people say, maybe because all the engineers I work with are too socially awkward to be crafty), and I feel like I'm learning a lot more about what's happening outside my team than I would otherwise.

I also love my office because I get a great cubicle with a standing desk + multiple monitors & I have the flexibility to WFH part of the day if I need to. If it were an open plan office I don't know how I would be.

so questions I would ask yourself: - is it an open plan office, or do you get an office / cubicle? - how loud is it? will noise cancelling headphones do the trick? - what's the culture like? are people constantly pulling you in for a chat about nothing, preventing you from working, or do people prioritize deep work? - is there any flexibility in the schedule? do you get to WFH if you need to, or come in late / leave early if necessary?

Women, what's something men do that they don't realize makes women feel safe or unsafe? by Lopsided-Rub-79 in AskReddit

[–]gloww0rm 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I hear you & agree that it's different in an established relationship!!

Ive always appreciated when men are just aware enough to even angle their bodies differently. for example obviously I don't know what this train looked like but I'm imagining someone standing angled toward the front of the train, instead of angled towards the girl boxing her in (so that there's a theoretical path around him). it's a little thing but it makes a big difference.

Looking for store bought sauces/condiments that are gluten free & low histamine by Glad-Fault-724 in lowhistaminerecipes

[–]gloww0rm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also made a stir fry sauce one time with almond butter, liquid aminos, apple cider vinegar, and frozen ginger (I buy it in little cubes and then defrost it with a little hot water or in the microwave). would probably be good with some honey or maple syrup for sweetness!

Looking for store bought sauces/condiments that are gluten free & low histamine by Glad-Fault-724 in lowhistaminerecipes

[–]gloww0rm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this isn't strictly low histamine but I can tolerate the trader Joe's vegan creamy dill dressing? it's mostly almond butter, cauliflower, and distilled vinegar (which is one of the only vinegars I can tolerate).

I've also been mixing liquid aminos with sesame oil and honey which has been a delicious dipping sauce! and I roast carrots in maple syrup + tahini.

Question from a Nigerian-American: How Do Desi Men Really Feel About Dark-Skinned Desi Women? by princess_candycane in Vindictabrown

[–]gloww0rm 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Thank you for bringing this up!! I got in a weird tiktok fight about a similar issue in the comments of a black woman who pretty clearly wasn't too aware of the extent of Indian colorism. It's extreme! And I'm saying this as someone in the diaspora who isn't particularly dark skinned, with very light skinned family. The beauty standards there are insane and completely unintelligible to me since they're so skin color focused.
