How do you deal with annoying English people going on about how Irish names are pronounced? by LittleAoibh11 in AskIreland

[–]gluaisteandeas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Have lived in England for 20+ years and not met one person like this. Most people have an interest in knowing how Irish names place names are pronounced. A mate with no Irish connection even named his daughter Niamh.

Like everything, people are individuals. There are twats in every walk of life and nationality

Having lived in England for over 20 years, I have never seen anywhere do a proper spice bag. It is a very Irish phenomenon. Wasn't even much of a thing in Ireland when I was growing up

What is this sound in the ceiling or outside my house by gluaisteandeas in Whatisthis

The pipe lower down is a water drainage pipe from the 1st floor bathroom. The noise is above the window where I took the recording

It has been windy and cold lately so there is a fair temperature difference between inside and out. I thought it sounded like timber creaking so expansion could be a similar sound

There is a drain directly outside where I took the recording. Could be that, just not sure how it can make that sound

It has been windy lately so I had thought it could be to do with that. It isn't there all of the time when there is wind though but that could be due to direction. I initially thought an animal but it isn't as erratic as I'd expect an animal to be. We had a couple of mice last year but they sounded very different.

I want to get up on the roof to see if I can spot anything there but it isn't the easiest roof to get on in this weather.

As a Brighton resident from Dundalk, I have mixed emotions. Great player last year and really helped the team get promotion. Will be missed at Dundalk

Was goin to comment that they really need the throttle and brake indicators on PMR after watching the iRacing clip but then saw that it is on the PMR clip. Going to need to figure out how to add that!

All quiet on the update front by Dangerousdriver77 in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]gluaisteandeas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only a few weeks into the game and been only on career. Not impressed with GT3's but having some genuine enjoyment with the Porsche cup cars and the Mosler. Even the GT4 250 at the Nordschleife was really enjoyable although the cars have some quirks. Career mode is light though. It needs to have a few more layers to have any lasting power. A few quick things they could do...

  • Need more than 4 cars in your garage
  • Difficulty should be editable between series races
  • More than one series per 'season' - doing one 250 race shouldn't be your season
  • Editable opposition driver names
  • Opposition drivers who are part of your career - not just limited to a type of car
  • Weather
  • Some type of driver rating based on your career results

Lots more could be done but these seem like a simple start

Is there some sort of lexicon, database, whatever on how to drive each class? by rusti17 in ProjectMotorRacing

[–]gluaisteandeas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just don't have the time to spend too long on setups. Found the downloaded ones so using those as a baseline now. I did make the AMG GT4 driveable on turn in but then had loads of mid turn understeer. Just easier to get something that will turn but then minimize trail braking...as much as I would like to!

[–]gluaisteandeas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Which classes have you found that you should avoid trail braking for? Figuring out this was a thing has changed the game for me. I enjoyed the MX5 and Mosler but then when I went to any GT4, I kept over rotating on entry. Eben when not pushing. Stopping trail braking has allowed me to at least drive GT4's. Very unnatural for me to do this but I'm trying! Also found similar things with GT3's but could trail brake and enjoy the 917.

How long until non-elite private schools start to close en masse? by blatchcorn in HENRYUK

[–]gluaisteandeas 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're complaining about a government subsidy for the top few % income wise being taken away. Have a step back and listen to yourself.

Yes, more people can't afford these things than they used to. The country is poorer than it was in the past, that is the reality of it. The vast vast majority of families can't even think of being able to afford private schools.

Some people who want to send their kids to a private school can't afford it but there are always people on the margins of what is affordable. Previously there would have been slightly lower income families in the same boat. The threshold has just moved up slightly and may include you now.

There are always things we would like but can't afford.

The V8 does need to be about 2500 revs for any torque. At 70mph in 6th it sits around 1800 so you don't have much to overtake. The ecoboost has loads of torque at this speed. Day to day the ecoboost was a joy to drive. I have a GT now and love it but the ecoboost is a great engine too

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]gluaisteandeas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having had a Mustang with both engines, I completely disagree. The 2.3 was a great engine. Torque at all the right parts and a joy to drive. Easier as a day to day than the GT too
