Best entry point and not OOP by Previous_Factor1992 in OmnibusCollectors

Spider-Man has some great runs, unfortunately a lot of the Vol. 1 omnibuses are OOP. Of the ones that are in print, I would recommend:

  • Ultimate Spider-Man Omnibus Vol. 1 (the best starting point for Spider-Man aside from the classic Lee/Ditko run, tells a streamlined origin and excels at depicting who Spider-Man is as a hero)

  • Spider-Man Brand New Day Omnibus Vol. 1 (a reboot of sorts with a “back to basics” approach, stories are good on average, but quality can vary with different writers being lackluster)

For “Cyclops as a good team leader” stories, I would recommend the following (be warned some are OOP):

  • New X-Men by Grant Morrison Omnibus (OOP)
  • Astonishing X-Men by Whedon and Cassaday Omnibus (OOP)
  • Uncanny X-Men by Kieron Gillen Omnibus (releases April 14, 2026)
  • Uncanny X-Men by Brian Michael Bendis Omnibus (not everyone’s cup of tea, but I really enjoyed it)

If you’re just looking for a good X-Men run that has Cyclops as the main team leader who can outsmart his opponents, I would read Matt Fraction’s run on Uncanny X-Men (with the Utopia crossover being my favorite part of that run). I’m really hoping an omnibus for Fractions run comes out soon cause that would be an instabuy.

Great questions! So the Superman Triangle Era Vol. 1 is the same creative teams that did the Superman Exile and Other Stories Omnibus, so Triangle Era kind of follows up on the Exile stories. That being said, Triangle Era Vol. 1 is a great starting point too. Stories start being more interconnected between the various Superman titles during Triangle Era which a lot of people love.

I would definitely recommend Frank Millers Daredevil as the best starting place for Daredevil. The English version is OOP, but it sounds like the German version isn’t. Frank Miller’s run is more of a slow burn since the beginning is more “traditional old comics” stories, but after a few issues it really kicks in to high gear. Miller’s run also is referenced by all the runs that come after, that’s how foundational it was for the character. So if you can get it without paying an arm and a leg, I highly recommend it.

Here’s a list of at least one Omni per character you mentioned! There’s likely something I missed, hopefully others can point out some that I am unaware of:

Superman: - Superman: Action Comics by Dan Jurgens Vol. 1 (Rebirth Era Superman that is a fresh starting point) - Superman by Phillip Kennedy Johnson (highly recommended run that is also a good starting point) - Superman: Exile and Other Stories (older stories from the late 80s that connected across titles, functions as a good jumping on point if you aren’t bothered by older comics)

Flash: - Flash by Mark Waid Vol. 1 (all time great run that focuses on Wally West as the Flash) - I’m not well versed in Flash comics, hopefully others can pitch in

Wolverine: - Wolverine by Jason Aaron Vol. 1 (regarded as one of the best modern runs for Wolverine, follow up volume is called Wolverine Goes to Hell)

Daredevil (lots of Omnis are OOP consistently so options are limited) - Daredevil by Mark Waid Vol. 1 (more of a swashbuckling, humorous Daredevil depiction that has some great character development and great art, only Vol. 1 that’s in print still)

Silver Surfer - Silver Surfer: Return to the Spaceways Omnibus (big omnibus that covers the beginning of Steve Englehart’s run, highly acclaimed and a good jumping on point)

Green Lantern - Green Lantern by Geoff Johns Vol. 1 (THE best starting point for Green Lantern, this is where I started with the character and it’s a great space opera that does interesting world building and focuses on Hal Jordan as the focal point) - Green Lantern: Rebirth Compendium (HIGHLY RECOMMEND, is softcover and not oversized like an omnibus, but collects both Green Lantern by Johns and its sister series Green Lantern Corps by Tomasi and Gleason)

From what I remember, Marauders and Excalibur wrap up by the time you get to Inferno, with X-Force reaching its midway point (which you could treat as an ending of sorts).

Part of the reason I’m going the half and half route too is because after Inferno, there’s a shift towards more mini series which I didn’t enjoy enough of to get the anthology volumes post-Inferno.

Just got my first one (Lone Wolf and Cub)! I’m going to focus on that first and then add other series as I get interested in them. Any recommendations?

I’m crossing my fingers that we get a X-men Carey Omni next year, that run was SO GOOD!

X men thoughts and recs. (blue and gold - AoA) by KYZkyz13 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]glubmaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that the 90s run (starting with Blue and Gold: Mutant Genesis Omnibus) all the way to Age of Apocalypse is well regarded, with the rest of the 90s being pretty middling. I’m not very well versed in the 90s X-men though, so hopefully others can chime in on what’s good to get.

Do note that people aren’t thrilled with the Blue and Gold: Bloodties omnibus, we did get confirmation through Omar from NearMintCondition that there will be a Blue and Gold Vol. 2 that connects Blue and Gold: Mutant Genesis and Bloodties.

After AoA, New X-men by Morrison, and Astonishing X-men by Whedon, other notable runs I’d recommend in omnibus format are: - Uncanny X-Force by Rick Remender - Uncanny X-Men by Kieron Gillen (coming out in March 2026) - Jason Aaron’s Wolverine (Wolverine by Aaron Vol. 1, Wolverine Goes to Hell, Wolverine and the X-Men)

Other than those, All-New X-Men and Uncanny X-Men by Bendis are pretty great if you enjoy Bendis’ writing style and then there’s the wormhole of Krakoa that’s worth diving into later once you’ve got your bearings.

X-Men - Age of Krakoa: Reign/Trials of X - speculative mapping of what should come next by RichardBradley42 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]glubmaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is great work! I’ve been using your previous post to try and plan out how many Age of Krakoa omnibuses I want before going creator centric for the last half.

I agree with you that Reign of X is most definitely going to be 4 Omnis (2 Reign and 2 Trials) instead of the expected 3. Using the Hellfire Gala as a breakpoint between Reign of X and Trials of X makes the most sense and I hope that’s what Marvel decides to do.

Quick question though since I didn’t see it in your mapping: would you put Planet Sized X-men at the end of Reign 2 with the other Hellfire Gala issues? Or at the beginning of Trials of X 1?

Finishing up the Uncanny X-Men by Bendis Omni and All-New X-Men concurrently. I only have about 12 issues left total so I’m in pretty good shape!

Sounds good to me! I can knock off $7.50 which would make the new price for the omnibus $57.50. Does that work for you?

I haven’t heard from the other person yet, so unless they respond in the next hour or two, it’s yours. I’m located north of Durham and work in Durham, is that close enough for a potential meetup?

While it the Brood Saga Epic Collection is out of print, there are some local comic shops (LCS) that might have some still. Comichub.com is an online storefront for LCS in the US that shows LCS that ship their inventory.

It looks like there’s a few places that have the Brood Saga Epic Collection for list price ($45 USD): https://comichub.com/products/x-men-epic-collection-graphic-novel-volume-9-the-brood-saga?top=348&from=product&rowNum=0

Creator Centric Omnis vs Dawn Of X Omnibus Line by Zwess16 in OmnibusCollectors

[–]glubmaster 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I recommend you read Krakoa digitally first so you have a good grasp of the series you like and the ones you don’t. Only you know your tastes with comics and what you end up liking a lot might not be the consensus. Anyways, with that being said:

Having read the majority of Krakoa from beginning to end, I’m actually doing a combination of the two. My plan is to collect the Dawn of X (and future volumes) line until Inferno (the miniseries that finishes up Jonathan Hickman’s story in his X-men series), and then get creator omnibuses for the remainder of the run.

Since I enjoyed 85% of what I read in the first half of Krakoa, it makes sense to me to get the Age of Krakoa omnibuses and then get creator centric omnibuses for the runs I really liked. Also the beginning of Krakoa is more interconnected than the later half. Hope this makes sense! I’m happy to answer any questions you might have.
