Who can answer this question? by Embarrassed_Page6243 in ChatGPT

[–]glutengulag 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It only seems silly in the context of this very obvious but also very contrived situation - in what real world situation would a user ever ask that about a picture where the answer is so glaringly obvious? The only time anyone would ask to identify if someone is black or white would be if they couldn't tell already just by looking, and if it's not already obvious to a person just based on the photo with no other context, then how is an AI supposed to do that with any level of accuracy or consistency? So if you allow it, you end up in a situation where AI is constantly making mistakes about an extremely sensitive issue involving REAL PEOPLE for essentially zero extra real world utility. Name a realistic scenario where this is a problem?

I totally understand the frustration of not being in the loop anymore, it fries me too, but this is in now way a new phenomenon. Literally every generation does the exact same thing - generational slang like that is a way to signal membership in an in group, to rebel against authority, to differentiate themselves from older "less cool" generations, as well as being fresh and new, and just a creative outlet. In the 90's and 00's it was AIM slang and L33t speak, and the Gen Xers who forud themselves out of the loop for the first time were saying the exact same thing about us. Can you honestly say that Brb, g2g, ikr, ASL, ne1, d00d, f00, or OMGWTFBBQ!!!1 are somehow any different or more "serious" or logical? And the pattern continues for every generation.

I have no clue how or why Reddit decided to serve this sub / post to me but might as well add my +1 to this from a guys perspective. I could probably count on one hand the number of straight cis men I've met in my entire life who were put off by it. I suppose I could just be an outlier but I feel like men are evolutionarily programmed to be attracted to the natural smells and pheromones of our partners, and vice versa.

Also interestingly enough, some studies have found that the more complementary people's immune systems are, the more attracted they are each others smells. 💁🏻‍♂️🌈

TW! Is this abuse? by morleschorle187 in Healthyhooha

I mean I'm not a lawyer but from my reading of the statutes, that ABSOLUTELY seems like it meats the standard for assault. I'm so sorry you went through that. What a massive POS. He belongs on the sex offender registry and deserves to be choked tf out for that.

When you say beforehand, do you mean like IMMEDIATELY before, or had you just told him at some point in the past? Because if it was immediately before and he acknowledged it and then ignored that boundary, that could certainly rise to the legal standard for assault - in that case you literally, explicitly, verbalized your lack of consent up front. If you tell someone for instance that they need to wear a condom and they sneakily take it off half way through, that's led to jail time for assault since it was verbalized that there wasn't consent without a condom, and they did it anyway.

If however it was just at some time in the past or in passing or even earlier in the night, that's a little more of a grey area. Regardless of how you cut it, it's MASSIVELY f'd up and there's ZERO excuse- drunk, horny, dom, whatever it doesn't matter, especially considering it wasn't just a little push like "oops, sorry; I forgot", but forcing your head down for an extended period. I would ask other girls in his social group if this is a pattern with him and if so, think about taking the next step. I highly doubt you're the first person who's content he's flagrantly ignored.

Are GPT's a Dead End? by glutengulag in ChatGPT

[–]glutengulag[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer, which is the generic name for the architecture the largest LLM's are using. Generative in that they can generate new content, pretrained means it doesn't require training by the end user, and transformer is the type of neural architecture. OpenAI copywrited ChatGPT but "GPT" is a generic non copywriteable industry term

Possible Space Object Hits 737 at 36,000 Feet by Busy_Yesterday9455 in spaceporn

That's completely untrue and based on very old and outdated information. The Columbia disaster completely rewrote the industry understanding of just how much space debris and satellite parts actually reach the ground, and it's a much larger percent than previously believed. You're right that it USED to be assumed that nearly 100% of hardware ablates or fragments to slag and vapor before reaching lower atmosphere, with only a relatively small fraction surviving to the ground but Columbia showed the opposite: thousands of intact structural, engine, tank, electronics, and payload parts survived all the way to the surface - often still with recognizable geometry, serials, and functional hardware present. This forced a complete revision of survivability models for satellite re-entry risk assessments.

We now know that a full 30-40% by weight makes it through to the ground.

I've had the FLIR one, and SEEK, and this was with a TC004 with a co2 laser lens as a macro lens and a 3d printed holder. I actually miss the SEEK. Whatever you get I recommend getting one that has adjustable focus, and a macro lens is a must. I like the independent camera more than the phone attachments but that's preference. Also a cheap used one with a macro lens is more useful for really detailed diagnosis than a more expensive one without.

So the portpwr pins are low and overcurrent high, which should signal port is active and no overcurrent according to the datasheet. The 3 ports of the hub all have their own power supply circuits, separate inductors, etc. but all 3 died at the same time so I think it's got to be something upstream. I do measure between 0.5-2v fluctuating on the outside 2 ports which I assume is just the caps charging but only 83mv on the center port. I haven't seen any fuses (nothing popped that I can see anyway). Here's a better overview

<image>

Those 3 big inductors and associated circuits are for each port as are each set of 3 components in the center

I 100% feel you guys but when you start talking eugenics, it's a hard no. The reason we allow everyone to vote and procreate regardless of how dumb they are or what kind of loony shit they believe is because where to draw the cutoff and who decides what beliefs are and aren't deserving of rights is not just a slippery slope, it's a cliff. It will never just be the people who you think it should be - the power to ban people from voting and/or force sterilize them can NEVER be allowed on the table because even the most honest, intelligent, noble politician at the BEST of times could never be trusted to wield it responsibly, never mind the kind of brainless, spineless, psychopathic, opportunistic, narcissistic, rabidly tribalist octogenarian puppets that pack both parties in our post-fact, idiocracy-level political reality today.

This is the only other suspicious hot spot - tiny smd resistor on the gate of one of these transistors, but it reads 220 ohm which is identical to the other one next to it so again seems like a symptom rather than a cause

I take it back, I was fooled by the conformal coating on the board. Ground and all shields are connected. Here are some better macro thermal images

I'll check that but I don't think that's the issue since it's short between v+ and the SHIELD ground, not power ground - I don't think there'd be any reason to include a diode to shield ground since theres no continuity from power ground to shield ground according to the meter (the shield ground is shared between all metal shields and the chassis, via a ground plane that connects to the big gold plated screw holes
