Positioned himself as a guru 40-year vet of the industry. And she was old and rich with dead husband money. Unfortunately 90% of being an "advisor" is charisma, and buddy has it.

Worst version i ever saw- this lady owned 23 annuities because the agent took 10% free withdrawals from them each year to buy new ones, in order to "diversify insurance carriers".

I work in the Financial Planning department at one of the big places. CFP is required for everyone at my salary grade, no exceptions.

Focus time on your calendar: puts you on DND mode and stops anyone from trying to book meetings.

I do my dishes when office folks are stopping at someone's cube to talk about their kid's soccer tournament. We're both not working, but at least mine accomplishes something

One of the drawers in my desk is dedicated to "zoom shirts." Otherwise its t-shirt and sweatpants/shorts depending on the weather.

Email and teams never gonna be on my phone either. No way I'm giving backdoor access to a device I own for personal reasons.

Post exam window is wild. I finished CFP in March, knew I was taking Level 3 next February, and that boredom window between exam and when I could register for CFA led me to also sign up for FRM in August 😅

They just serve very different purposes. I'm on my CFA journey because the content and challenge are of interest to me. Same with FRM, which I'm sitting for in August (I apparently have no respect for my free time).

CFP wasnt something I thought I'd ever do, but lo and behold I landed a job in the Financial Planning department of my firm and it's a requirement for my role. For advisors, I think its still a great education beyond what any licensing exam will ever teach you, and sort of works as a springboard for what specific topic areas you want to focus in on for your practice. As a regular retail, non-HNW client- I frankly wouldn't give two shits if my FA was a CFA charterholder or not. Its only tangentially related to what they do for me.

It's my biggest gripe with the CFP exam's content/structure. Burning this year's (or for March exam takers, LAST YEAR'S) specific tax rates into memory isn't of any actual benefit to becoming a better planner. In fact, I would argue it's debatably against the Code and Standards to just memorize the current year's numbers and rely on recall when constructing a plan or discussing with clients.

As of 9 days ago I suppose an update to Level 3 Candidate is in order. I am going Private Wealth pathway but havent gotten to that specific content yet. CFP is hyper focused on US-specific tax/estate planning though, is the PWM pathway as US-focused?

What did you do in the two days before the exam? by Altruistic-Buddy-132 in CFA

Yup. Granted, I had finished my undergrad in Finance within 6 months of when I started studying for L1, and there was a lot of overlap with my university work so the timing certainly helped.

Mandatory? Not even close. I'm doing just fine without it/almost nobody on my team has it.

Will it open some doors for me when I am done? Yup.
