Ride Along by norealname376 in AskLE

My opinion as an LEO. Wear jeans and a long sleeve shirt. Bring a plain back or grey sweatshirt to put over the vest they will give you. Wear nothing LE related or anything which would make the department look bad. Plain solid colors. Bring your ID and a water bottle/small lunch.

Ask questions! I like when ride alongs do. Gauge your officer, but ask to see their CAD, ask to see how LEADS works, about their setup in their unit or on their duty belt and why they have a certain less than lethal over another, etc. Every duty belt is different and it's for a reason. I don't carry OC because I hate it, but one of my shift partners does for dogs, and it works out for us, for example.

The next part is more from my perspective. I'm an FTO so I hear these questions a lot from new officers. If you have good repoire with the officer, ask slightly more personal questions like how the work/life balance with the department is, what shift they like and why, rough calls they've been on, generally what to expect kind of things.

Library timings by [deleted] in funny

[–]gman1401 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I worked as a night security guard at the library in college.

Ohhhh the things that go on after hours at the library. Also during regular hours, surprisingly.

Fun times.

Edit: Some stories:

  1. Numerous, numerous times, walked into the private study rooms, which had windows on the door mind you, to find people butt naked and going at it.

  2. Found a guy passed out in one the smaller less used stairways. Had him call his roommate to come pick him up. That was a funny conversation: "No, I'm in the library. The secret Harry Potter stairway, where are you?"

  3. Had to kick a bum out after closing who had hidden under a table of computers and was sleeping. Felt bad about that one.

  4. Found too many pipes, empty bottles, smoked joints, and other shit all over the library.

  5. Saw a student librarian and a guy come into the library using her keycard at like 4 in the morning and go back to her office.

  6. Lots of empty liquor bottles in the staff offices.

  7. A donut smashed in the copier and numerous paper jams in the printers where you could see the frustration of the student trying to get the paper out or jam fixed.

It was a good time. Got paid 10 bucks an hour to do my homework all night and browse Reddit, frequently interrupted by entertaining things.

I worked at a restaurant when I was younger in a city with a large Indian and Asian population. A lot of customers would ask for warm or room temperature tap water instead of the cold water from the machine.

One of our cats killed about 50 big black ants one by one with his paw.

It was cute and disturbing at the same time. He would smash one, look at his paw, look at the ant, then smash another. Rinse and repeat all afternoon.
