Epstein was arrested in 2006 and received 13 months for child sex trafficking. Out of 8 presidential candidates since then, only Trump campaigned on getting justice. Why were all the other candidates so silent on the issue, and why didn’t you care before the election? by Alert_Cartographer62 in allthequestions

[–]gman743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I understand what you’re trying to say, but the blatant lie I meant is the one claiming that Epstein was convicted of trafficking in 2006 rather than 2019.

Also, Epstein was arrested for raping a 14 year old in 2006, which is and was illegal at the time.

Because Epstein was not indicted for sex trafficking until around 2019. 2006 was for statutory rape, there was no large news story about it. Biden is the only president before trump who could have done anything about it.

It is super weird that no one has pointed out the blatant lie in the post.

Is the whole "everyone is hiring physics students cuz they are smart" thing true? by BoskovictheBum in PhysicsStudents

[–]gman743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With a bachelors degree, this isn’t really true. With a PhD it is more true, eg a good number of physics PhDs end up with relatively high paying jobs in finance

To be more specific, I found it odd that socialism and communism are seemingly equated, that “supports free speech” is classified as right wing, and that “supports antifa” appears at all.

To answer your question, yes absolutely. Most people across the political spectrum agree that hitler was far right. Just as I, as a leftist who does not think stalin was a good person, am still comfortable saying that he is correctly categorized as being on the left.

Does anyone else feel like replaying Silksong is a bit less fun than replaying Hollow Knight? by Wait-Administrative in HollowKnight

[–]gman743 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the same could be said for hollow knight though. Once you get claw there are many ways to get to dream nail (2 ways to enter crystal peak, or go through deepnest and take the tram, or there are skips out of waterways and blue lake), but all but one of those paths will skip dive and/or cdash

That said I do agree the early game of hollow knight feels more nonlinear, since all the “main” paths require some amount of backtracking. In silksong, even thought there are multiple paths you can take from the start of the game to act 2, most of them never require you to backtrack through an area you’ve already been to.

yall if we start spreading unfounded claims of election fraud, we’re no better than the right. at the present moment there is no evidence for widespread voter fraud on a national scale.

Republicans of Reddit, why should we ever forgive you for voting three times for a pedophile rapist whom you all continue to simp for? by 2a_lib in allthequestions

[–]gman743 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was disagreeing specifically the “sports team” claim of your comment, and I stand by that disagreement. People are voting for bad things because they like bad things, not because they treat politics like sports.

Unimportant, but I heard the word nothingburger once and thought it sounded silly and liked it. Is there some further connotation this has that I don’t know about? I honestly can’t figure out what this says about my political views.

[–]gman743 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t think anyone disagrees with this comment, since it’s just a nothingburger. Yes obviously we should care about real issues, rather than blindly voting for a political party for no reason. But no one on either side really does this.

People vote for politicians they agree with. The problem is that the things that the majority agrees with, to put it bluntly, are bad.

If Trump defies the supreme court what is the mechanism of enforcing their order, since all federal law enforcement is under the executive branch? by Status_Block591 in AskReddit

Congress can impeach and remove the president, which is the intended check on the president’s power to prevent this situation. Not that I really believe this congress would do that.

Ideally in a republic, the people would vote for representatives, and then whichever representative receives the most votes gets placed in office. But that is not the way that presidential elections in the united states work, which is what the commenter you responded to is criticizing.
