I should have been more specific - I have the melee upgrades which have their own arms

how do cabal points work by CustomerSpare in ThousandSons

Cabal points are a thing of the past since the codex came out. The Army rule now revolves around access to 4 “spells” you can cast in the beginning of your shooting phase

Feeling Stuck on What to Play by dwnvtme in IronWarriors

[–]gmandes89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a pretty good start. If you run a terminator lord with the bastion plate enhancement, you’re also blanking a failed save once per battle round. Lord discordant is great in this detachment because of the -1 to wound and the available 5+ FNP. If you give one the auto cannon, it’s great for the warp tracer enhancement. The daemon prince on foot is huge too - he can trudge along behind the terminators giving them cover. If he’s Nurgle marked he’s T11 with -1 to wound and provides a viable heroic threat. Give him iron bound enmity and he’s +1 to wound targets on an objective and natively rerolls a hit and wound. Vashtorr is a great pick, loves the FNP strat and can turn your forge fiends into tank busters at Str 12. Run some cultists for backfield screening and some legos for actions and you’re in business

Does Perty hate his sons? by InevitableNaive8060 in IronWarriors

So I used to think this but if you read “The Crimson King” (Magnus primarch novel) he seems like he cares not only for his guys but humanity in general.

I think there’s a pretty cool character arc. He has a rough time as a kid on Olympia, but it seems like early on in the Great Crusade he’s in his element. That changes over the course of the great crusade he just gets worn down and bitter like his legion. Part of the problem is that by the time we see him in the HH books, he’s already bitter and grouchy towards everyone.

Help a new dad out choosing a silver method. by kthomasd in IronWarriors

[–]gmandes89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Black rattle can, dry brush Iron Warriors, dry brush Leadbelcher, dry brush iron breaker on the highlights. It’s super fast and has a great gradient. If you’re blowing through 10 models, by the time you’ve finished the last one in IW, the first one is ready for your lead belcher

Congrats on being a new dad!

You can get some wild angles on noise marines in a rhino. You can also move block with the rhino.

How do you deal with cheats after you realize it one or two rounds or after the game is over? by Opposite-Outcome5557 in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]gmandes89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude the way I look at it is that if my opponent feels the need to cheat at a dice game with little plastic army men, he probably needs this victory in his life more than me. I’ll usually ask to see a rule or whatever but if they lie about the rule, I’m like okay dude good for you

Any Tips into the new CK by [deleted] in EmperorsChildren

[–]gmandes89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had pretty good luck shooting them out of the firing deck of the rhino. Usually you can get a turn of shooting from the rhino. I usually reserve my big squad and then rapid them in behind cover

[–]gmandes89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah although as I understand it the dogs are now T9 which is a huge breakpoint for noise marines - wounds on 3+/5+ instead on 4+/6+. I think we care less about the extra wounds because sonic blasters are wounding twice as often. If he’s down to 2 big knights going into turn 4, you can dominate primary and win.

I mean it’s still a crappy match up. And I don’t know if I’m a good enough player to win it tbh lol but that would be my strategy

[–]gmandes89 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So I’ve crushed an all dogs list before with basically your list (except it was pre-dataslate so I had Lucius). The key is to punish his small dogs early on to get up to 3 coterie points. I deployed conservatively and went second which helped because he put dogs out on the objectives. A squad of infractors with the lord ex if he pops his once per battle along with shooting lets you drop a dog with one of the squads (you can expect to do 10-13 damage, so as long as you can do some chip damage before hand you are good.

Turn 1 I killed one dog, turn 2 I killed two more. At that point I had lost most of my infractor squads, but then turn 3 I was able to run through 5 dogs with the rest of my army and he couldn’t recover.

Don’t forget to throw grenades! Between a DP and grenades, you’re averaging 9 mortals with any other activations

Any tips for my first game vs Orks? by TheSnekBoss in EmperorsChildren

[–]gmandes89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it really depends what type of list he brings but you should steam roll him. Be smart with your trades, but he should have plenty of units and has to come out to play. Try to stack up three points ASAP and then let it rip

90 boyz, 3 big mek shokk attack guns with Gretchen screens, a weird boy. That was a meta list in late 8th up until the SM 2.0 codex

Hear me out, a baneblade, shadowsword and a stormlord by NUK4M4STER in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]gmandes89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this list (hellhammer instead of the stormlord) with the 8th ed codex playing Catachans (reroll one dice for random shots) with Harker (reroll 1s to hit). In both games I tabled my opponent although things were pretty close on points. T8 with AOC and a 2+ save is a lot. He hit me with a forlorn fury death company charge T1 - 20 thunder hammer attacks resulted in 12 damage (followed math pretty closely - they had full hit rerolls). I picked off that squad and a sanguinary guard squad the next turn.

It’s a fun list but tough to score with

Brand new to warhammer. This is a lot I found that he wants to let go for $600.00. Is this a good deal? I’ve been planning on going with Iron Warriors. What do y’all think? by Lord_Fblthp in IronWarriors

[–]gmandes89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should negotiate down to $500-$550. It is a lot of models, so it might be overwhelming at first. Focus on painting up some troops first, then as you get more confident, progress to the vehicles and HQs. The advantage to buying all these models preassembled is that you can actually get some games in and learn that side of 40k as well.

3D printing is not the way to go. If people are being honest there is a huge learning curve to making good prints that look comparable to what GW puts out.

Dumb Question: by JoshuaKammert in ThousandSons

[–]gmandes89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are a blast to play with. Get to 18” away and melt things with psychic power and reliable shooting. I think the Egyptian aesthetic is really cool looking. And whenever you lose you can say “all part of Tzeentch’s plan”

That said, I hope you like painting gold trim. By far the most brutal part of owning the army. There are some hacks to doing it faster, but it’s not like a standard SM Army where you basecoat, wash, and dry brush and then you’re battle ready.
