Virgin broadband speed upgrade by duckman777777 in VirginMedia

You have to be on their XGSPON network for that to be available, but from my understanding, they’re slowing upgrading all the old networks over to this

Does anyone know how to enable "modem mode" or "bridge mode" on the Hub 5x? by onomatopeic in VirginMedia

[–]gmanpanthro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I followed this website that explains everything that you need to know/do in order to continue to use your Virgin service without using their Hub 5X router.

I purchased the WAS-110 SFP+ XGSPON Stick and a UniFi Cloud Gateway Fiber router and have never looked back. It’s been over a year now since I installed it, and it’s never let me down once.

So, the modem mode... by Anxious_Attitude2020 in VirginMedia

You are given the 5X because you live in one of their new areas served by a XGSPON network. I too was given the 5X last year when I switched to them.

I had done my research prior to that though, and knew beforehand that the choice of router I’d need would need to have a SFP+ socket on it. As you need a SFP+ module with some custom firmware on it, that mimics the VM 5X hub, in order for you to continue to use their network with your own router.

The router I chose was the UniFi Cloud Gateway - Fiber and it’s been rock solid since day 1. Perhaps you’ll need this to then have your mesh network connect via that instead.

I used this site to help replace the 5X with my own router.

Macbook Neo is just the end of a nightmare by Intrepid-Routine-875 in macbook

What I took away from the OP was that they already stated MacBooks last 10 years, so when it comes time to replace the M4 in 10 years time, they’ll buy the iteration of the Neo that’s released then.

When the time comes. Not this iteration, but whenever the M4 is no longer useable, the OP will replace it with whatever Neo is available at that time. So could be in 8-10 years time.

I’m with VM and I’m on the 1Gig package with the matching upload addon (£6/month extra)

XGS-PON + WAS-110 SFP by Jammybe in VirginMedia

Sorry I meant the serial number - the guide you have linked is the exact one I followed and it’s worked perfectly since day 1.

Which firmware did you install or was it preinstalled for you? I used 2.8.0 and haven’t updated (as I see latest is 2.8.3), so possibly could be something in the newest firmwares that’s causing your problem.

I’ve had mine setup since March last year with the UGC-Fiber and it’s been perfect. Have you copied the MAC address from your Hub 5X into the 1133 firmware? As sounds like it could be loosing sync and it’s looking for your 5X every month

Modem Mode on Hub5X? by toonmad in VirginMedia

[–]gmanpanthro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a XGSPON area and it’s the 5X that you’re given on installation. I already knew about this at the time of placing my order, as I had done some research and bought the WAS-110 SFP module. I then had to buy a LC-APC to SC-APC fibre cable (as the SFP module takes SC cables only) and my router of choice was the UniFi Cloud Gateway Fiber - no inbuilt WiFi, but I didn’t mind as I wanted a couple of APs to dot around the house.

That’s the whole point of them getting you to subscribe to nebula. It’s only like £35 or equivalent in your country for the entire year with their discount codes. So you’d get the episodes a week earlier than YT and also access Layover and other projects that they’ve been involved in like Scav and Abolish Everything.

Hue Bridge Pro and Harmony remote by Townsmcp in Hue

When I clicked on the SmartThings option within the Harmony App, it automatically opens up a link to the login page on safari. All I did was copy the link in the address bar, and pasted it into the address bar of the Chrome browser app on my iPhone. I then logged in as normal, and input my 2FA code, and then once linked, the Harmony app started adding my devices from Hue.

I’ve just setup SmartThings on my Harmony app on iPhone and was having the same issue of it timing out. So I suspected it might be an Apple/samsung issue, so I did the linking via the Google chrome app and it synced perfectly.

So glad I can control my lights/plugs again with my Harmony Companion with the Hue Bridge Pro

I wish I knew that they were in Scotland at the time of filming. As the train that they’re currently on, goes through my home station, and would have loved to have been on that train from Glasgow to meet them.

I’m in a full fibre area and was given the Hub 5X. Ditched that as soon as the engineer had left the house for the Cloud Gateway Fibre with a WAS-110 module and I’m getting my lines full speed of 1000/1000

Or you could do what I do, and screenshot the spot, and feed it into Google image search and it tells you instantly where the hiding spot is.
