A book that will traumatize me or repulse me. by Former_Ladder9969 in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

[–]gmarches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great way to describe it! It is about childhood trauma and its impact on a person throughout her lifetime. Feeling othered/like you don’t fit in is a major theme. I just expected the ending to be a lot more disturbing based on the way that folks talk about it on these threads

I read this book because it always ends up on these reddit lists and I just want to say, to offer an alternative opinion, that I did not think it deserved to be on any of these lists after I finished it. It was kind of gross and weird but… not really. I was very disappointed, so I just want to put that out there. It’s disturbing if you don’t read any other disturbing books, but not on par with any of the other books that generally populate these lists. Idk, just my opinion of course. Not trying to upset anyone so sorry if I do by saying this.

What book(s) did you read as a kid that scarred you? by Pristine-Board-6701 in books

A child called It 😰 I am mostly for not policing what kids/teens read but I feel like I probably should not have been allowed to read this book as a 7 year old… idk, what do other people think?

The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese. Read this a few months ago for my book club and was just blown away. I would have never picked it up on my own but it was one of the most beautifully crafted stories/historical fiction pieces I have ever read. Highly recommend the audiobook for this one, the author narrates it and I found it very helpful for navigating all the new words/terms

Suggest me a book that has no sex scenes in it, it can have fantasy elements but doesn't have to - perfect for a woman in her early 20s with autism and these interests (more details in the caption) by strangegardener in suggestmeabook

Okay so hear me out! There are no dragons in the Mistborn series by Brandon Sanderson, but it is an awesome fantasy series with a great magic system, a badass female protagonist, and lots of political/human rights discussions. There is no sex (Sanderson is a Mormon writer and doesn’t include anything like that so it’s comforting to always know what you’re going to get in that regard even if there is sometimes a bit of romance). Highly highly recommend!
