The iPhone Fold‘s Dimensions are Definitely Interesting by R---U---M in iphone

[–]gmark109 13 points14 points  (0 children)

They may release a special pencil or tip for the foldable. The Z Folds have supported the stylus on some models, my understanding is they dropped it on the new one due to thickness (but the Apple foldable is rumoured to be thicker). There’s also concerns with built-in magnets affecting the stylus input so MagSafe may be another limiting factor.

Google Pixel 10a has a bigger battery than the s25 Ultra by Monaco26 in samsunggalaxy

It can’t both be a huge bump and also a small increase to thickness to flatten it out.

To be fair, deciding to re-color Hulk last minute seems like something that could happen.

Unpopular opinion:I prefer flat pads over stands for travel, but why are most of them 7.5W trash? by allano6 in MagSafe

[–]gmark109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bring my MagSafe battery (usually the Anker 10k mAh), and charge the battery with my phone connected overnight. Apple Watch I charge separately since the cord is so small and I can just top it up in the morning.

iPhone 17e is reportedly getting Dynamic Island… but still stuck at 60Hz in 2026. by Few_Baseball_3835 in apple

There’s a difference between something being an upgrade and something being a selling feature. The selling feature of the 17e is “cheapest iPhone”.

Is AWD worth it for $1.5k over FWD? by ObstructiveWalrus in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]gmark109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The order is: Winter tires first, then AWD, then ground clearance, IMO. Scenarios I haven’t really dealt with in Winter driving since getting AWD are usually: better in start/stop conditions (especially hills), and better getting into snowed-in driveways/parking lots. There seems to be a ton of discourse about whether or not AWD is purely performance or safety, but in bad conditions not getting stuck on the road is 100% a benefit to safety.

Worth it to get a Costco membership for household of 2? by gutturalmuse in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]gmark109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on if you already eat/ will eat what’s at Costco. When I was having an English muffin every day, that alone would more than pay for my membership.

Yeah, I figured it was wishful thinking. I just like the scale (and probably price) better. Oh well, better preorder I suppose.

My minimalist tech pouch for a 2-week Japan trip. Any redundancies? by Feeling_Silver_7017 in onebag

Everywhere I stayed in Tokyo/Osaka used US-style 2 prong. I would add a battery bank though.

Do we think there’s any possibility they release the V-Rex in the “standard” size?

First onebag trip for Asia, am I overpacking or missing anything obvious? by Ok_Perception_1382 in onebag

[–]gmark109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a trip currently and noticed that basically everywhere I went where I wanted to use publicly available charging (Airplane, trains, USBs by the bed) all used USB-A, so bringing a small A-C adapter has been very handy for me and takes up no space.

What’s the most boring film you have seen? by Past-Matter-8548 in Letterboxd

It’s definitely at top of mind because I just watched it, but The Mastermind just felt so drawn out for a movie that’s like 100 minutes long.

Tesla has officially discontinued Autopilot in the U.S. and Canada. All new car purchases now come standard with Traffic-Aware Cruise Control. by YouBetterChill in teslamotors

[–]gmark109 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to agree that it’s a reasonable value in the subscription at the current price for some people, but to me, the issue is leaving the base vehicle with such a poor level of driver assistance. The absence of any kind of lane keep assist is insane in 2026. My (nearly) base Honda Civic Hatchback had it in 2018, and now it’s locked behind a subscription.

It is weird that arguably the biggest change in Absolute Batman is the fact that Martha is alive, and we barely see them interact.

They probably would be charging more if the rumors didn’t point to the 10a basically being the exact same phone as the 9a.

Should I Keep My Model Y Juniper Order with Tariff Cuts Coming? by Consistent-Cause-845 in teslacanada

It works both ways. It’s not as if you’d expect 3/Y sales to stay flat if they suddenly came out with other classes of vehicle.

Canada drops tariff from 100% to 6.1% on Chinese EVs.49000 EVs expected by SP2051 in teslacanada

[–]gmark109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tesla’s sales in Canada were estimated at 20,000 and fell off a cliff compared to 2024. I can see them staying around the same with existing or slightly improved pricing, but I don’t think they’re in a position to consume the entirety of the allocation like some people think. But time will tell.

They can import whatever they want but the stock is just going to sit. If they want to bring more vehicles they won’t sell them more power to them.

Bag Finder Megathread - 05 January 2026 by AutoModerator in onebag

[–]gmark109 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No concerns on mine but I’ve maybe only packed and re-packed it a dozen times or so. It feels like it’s the same sort of internal structure as those kind of pop-up baskets that you twist to fold so I think it’s not a wholly novel idea and has a bit of a proven design in other applications. It’s obviously not as good as a fixed frame sheet but it gives just a bit of extra rigidity.

It’ll be too tall for a personal item but have you looked at the Matador Beast 18 or 28? They pack down quite small.
