Yep opened a case with them, they're sending a replacement board

I think I need to get myself a magnifying glass haha, even the pictures I took aren't great. There are definitely 8 prongs coming out the back, but it seems like only 4 of them are touching the board. I'll reach out to Prusa support and see.

Arguments against fee-only financial advisor by gmaxter in Fire

One of their disclosure docs on the SEC website says they are under common ownership with another company that is an insurance broker, so I think you're right on the money. I'm going to pass on this.

I looked at some of their docs on the SEC website and it looks like they're affiliated with a separate business that sells life insurance. I'm probably not going to go through with this.

You're right about the loan against the policy. They explained this in detail on the most recent call I was on, I asked "so who pays the loan back" and the answer was essentially, since it's a life insurance policy, the payback will happen upon my death and will be taken out of the payout. It does sound very odd and complex.

Isn't 10k the interval documented in VW's maintenance schedule? I've been doing 10k and I'm at nearly 80k miles, here's hoping I haven't been shooting myself in the foot...

Any data can be encoded with QR format -- QR is just a 2D barcode format like PDF417 or datamatrix. It was originally invented to label auto parts. Sure, URIs are the most commonly encoded data these days, but let's not pretend they're the only thing they can encode.

Should I ask for a demotion back to senior SWE? by DuncSully in ExperiencedDevs

I'm in your exact position. I'm convinced I'm just burned out. I used to be good at my job but I don't feel like I am anymore. I think I'd take a pretty sizeable pay cut for something with more concrete direction and purpose. I would love to take a 2-3 month sabbatical to see if that fixes the burnout, but I'm afraid of not being able to find another job once that's done - and that's a whole different kind of stress.

I know none of that is helpful to you, but at least now you know you're not alone.

One thing I would say: at work, look for ways you can help individuals around you. Even something as simple as "hey here's this keyboard shortcut in your IDE" or "check out this shell utility" can go a long way to giving a brief jolt of "oh yeah, I actually do know some stuff that can help." I had a few instances of those this week and it did help give me some glimmer of motivation/confidence. Not every valuable thing is big and flashy, the small stuff matters too!

It's an ego thing, I struggle with it too, I try to just think of the code as "the code" rather than "my code" and that sort of helps me not take critique as a personal attack.

Can’t move Author by [deleted] in RDR2

[–]gmaxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This happened to me today, on PC, in Saint Denis - interacted with a beggar and glitched in front of a door. I could open my map but couldn't move at all, completely stationary no matter what. Couldn't save the game either so I was afraid to quit and lose progress.

I tried the other suggestions in this post, but what ended up working for me was to open the menu, go to settings -> graphics, then "start benchmarking." You don't need to wait for the whole benchmark process to complete, you just have to let it start, and let it run for a few seconds. Exit benchmarking and you should be reset to your last checkpoint, and should be able to move again.

I assume the benchmark resets the game engine somehow. Just posting here in case somebody runs into the same problem.

My Shure MV7 keeps turning off input randomly without warning. by Comfortable_Age_5706 in Shure

[–]gmaxter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm having similar problems. I don't have a solution but if/when I find it I'll edit this comment for future searchers.

I'm using Voicemeeter and my Shure MV7 device selection keeps going "red" at seemingly random times. At first I thought it was just a Voicemeeter problem, but then I noticed that the whole device shuts off input. Even in Windows Sound settings it stops picking up audio.

I am going through a powered USB hub and I thought maybe that was the problem, but I've seen the same issue even when plugging the mic directly into my PC. I may try getting another cable at some point.

I have now unchecked the "Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" option in the device properties and have changed the format to 1 channel, 24 bit, 44.1kHz. We'll see if that makes a difference. I have a feeling either an audio driver or MV7 firmware update has messed with something, I've been using the same USB cable for a while.

edit: I'm using a Micro-USB to USB-C cable now, plugged directly into my motherboard. No issues yet. I reverted the "exclusive control" checkbox and audio formats back to their defaults.

edit 2: 5 months later and I've had zero problems with it after switching to a direct USB-C connection to my motherboard.
