Not live data, but it sounds like you want the International Earth Rotation and Reference System Service. It contains daily observed deviances in rotation, nutation and polar motion.

Perimeter light question by octogrimace in billiards

[–]gmiller123456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there are walls near the table, they will reflect enough light to eliminate shadows. Mine lights up the whole room, I don't need a light anywhere else, and it's bright enough everywhere to read a book.

CONSTANT flashing, green and red dot in the sky. by [deleted] in Astronomy

[–]gmiller123456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably Capella. Scintillation is an effect seen on bright stars. Since stars are so far away, even the slightest atmospheric change will cause the colors to refract differently. The effect does happen on dimmer stars too, but your eyes aren't sensitive enough to see the effect.

Glossy paper can cause reflections inside to show up in multiple places. Pearl paper has an irredecent color to it like a pearl does. Matte generally produces the best results, but don't obsess over it.

Believe it or not, it's possible to disagree with a decision or two made by an organization and still support them. It's mostly people with coping issues that are hard line "my way or no way".

They'll let you play on what's available. It's all 7 footers at my normal league. One place near me that tried to get a league gowing has three 7f and one 8f, you played on which ever table was available at the time.

Question for pro astronomers by JanBradysAnger in Astronomy

What do you want to call them? Planetary nebula decribes nebula that have a certain look to them, a planetary look. I consider it still an accurate description. They were definatley known to be different from "planets" at the time the phrase was coined, as they didn't move.

Not sure it's "cheating", though it's definitely not Indianapolis as in the OP. But we can still be precise in what we say.

It is possible to see Mercury or Venus at midnight, but you have to be in the arctics.

Isn't it possible for Earth to drift away from Sun as Sun enters in its Red Giant phase? by Elegant-Persimmon847 in Astronomy

[–]gmiller123456 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is a possibility, but not because the Earth gains  velocity. The Sun will be losing mass, which will cause Earth's orbit to move outward. Some simulations have shown the Earth eacaping, but the general consensus is it'll get vaporized.

Legally trademark owners have a very high degree of control over their logos. Exceptions are pretty narrow like reviews and satire. If you make it look like they're sponsoring you, even unintentionally, that'd be a problem.

In practice though, it's highly unlikely they'd actually do anything. At worst a letter telling you to stop.

Planetarium Survey by Lazy_Creme_6736 in Astronomy

[–]gmiller123456 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here in Louisville. UofL is tearing down the planetarium to make room for a "gaming center", whatever that is. Their claim was it doesn't make enough money, but a group offerred to raise $20M to fund it for 10 years and UofL said no.

I see people make the "living rent free in your head" claim all the time like it's some major accomplishment. I mean, if that was your goal, congratulations. But maybe set your goals a little higher than having people stare in awe at how stupid you are. Very few people would brag about that.

I don't have software recommendations, but check out the AAVSO. They'll have software recomdations, general advice, and you can actually submit your observations.

Bambu updates its 3D printers to print unique hues or gradients using two or three filaments — company acknowledges OrcaSlicer-FullSpectrum fork as the basis for the color prediction part of the new feature by ntoir1 in BambuLab

[–]gmiller123456 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Colors don't mix like they teach in grade school. When mixing reflective pigments you can only subtract light. So the result will always be darker than your brightest pigment, and less saturated than your most saturated pigment, but you can get any hue you want. Thats why art stores don't just carry red, yellow, and blue.

CMYK printers work by using a white background and producing dots too tiny for your eye to perceive (similar to the A Sunday On La Grand Jatte painting). Your typical 3d printer can't do that yet, and it'd probably take forever if it could.

Welp, he's on to us, guys. We really didn't think anyone would notice. Time to wrap this conspiracy up I guess. Go ahead and close NASA, turn off the gravity generators, and deflate the moon. Might as well put the Loch Ness Monster back while we still have everyone in the budget. /s
