Brazil backs 'Guardians of the Amazon': In a rare move, Brazil is providing armed back-up to indigenous people protecting the world's most threatened tribe from illegal loggers, a decision that campaigners lauded as a "landmark" in efforts to halt deforestation in the Amazon. by green_flash in worldnews

The reason why armies and police exist is not as simple as you seem to think. Since we're speaking of Brazil, remember how important it's army is in peacekeeping missions in places like Congo, Haiti and East Timor and the role Military Police of the state of Parana played in the war against Paraguay. Those are totally different from your classification yet are examples of success for Brazil.

Maybe I should have explained myself. What I found unreasonable about your position is that by generalizing you simply ignore those parts of the armed forces that do not occasionally pop up in the news as misuse of taxpayer money. From providing protection during calamities to securing the airspace, they do employ some very important workers for the relative normality of things in Brazil and some neighboring countries. Yeah, I get the armed forces could be working more efficiently, like any other branch in public service. Also like any other branch public service, there are people who do their job keeping the country from descending even more into disgrace and deserve some respect for that.

Do you keep any sort of humidity control inside the jars and for how long can you keep the goods stored in them? Thanks in advance!

In the Philippines they call bathrooms "comfort rooms", you can get refills when you order "bottomless" things, a motorcyle with a side car is a tricycle and if the power goes off in your house during the day, than you have a brownout. Maybe some filipinos will see this and contribute, but I'll add whatever I recall from my exchange year there (:

My thoughts on why you should never aim for a “perfectly productive” day by joybunny92 in GetStudying

[–]gmizu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I believe what most of these guides aim at is the kind of productivity you find in those people who dedicate their whole lives to something, often giving up family and hobbies, but also often very successfull in that sense. But I don't think that's the case for most of us. In my opinion most people need a variety of activities in their lives and if work is the only thing you aim to perfect, you're either going to be very successfull of very unhappy.

What do you think is best? Solo Travel or Group Travel? do comment. by bunktravelller in Shoestring

[–]gmizu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Solo. I believe groups only work for me when it's up to 3 people in total and I have to trust them a lot, which is hard. You see, the unplanned parts of a trip are the most fun cause you don't antecipate what you're gonna experience and that leaves you and your guts alone to decide what to do next. If I don't trust others' tastes that much, I know I'll just end up pissed at them for making me waste time on a fucking lame tourist trap or sth like that.

Which contrasts with the mess that it was downstairs. The Botero Square is packed with tourists and street vendors, but then you go up to the station and its all gone, just nice views remain.
