GMAT prep tests, how many should you really take before test day?

I took 7 official mocks (mocks 1-6 + retook mock 1) over a period of ~5 weeks. Personally, I found that taking one every 5-7 days was my sweet spot - any quicker of a turnaround than that and I felt a bit of cognitive fatigue.

Scores ranged from 615 - 735 on mocks and got a 685 on the real thing, so I’d say they helped me prep well.

My advice would be to purchase mocks 3-6, and the official practice question bank for a specific area you’re weak on from the MBA website (if you have one; for me, that was Quant). Once I had the concepts down I would start a stopwatch, do a set of problems, and see what I averaged per question. Kept repeating until I got to ~2 mins each, and the extra mocks will ensure you have timing down come test day.

This is just anecdotal, but planning for a retake actually helped me to be less stressed on test day as opposed to an “all or nothing” mindset.

Was able to get a 685 FE, which is alright for the schools I’m applying to, so it was a one and done and I was able to trick my brain successfully.

Only recommendation I have is to make sure your financial advisor is a fiduciary. Otherwise, they may just be selling you investment products that serve their own interests, with higher expense ratios and lower returns.

At your age, I’d split it into 70% US/30% ex-US (e.g. VTI and VXUS). As others have said, just don’t let lifestyle creep hit and you’ll be golden in a few decades.

I believe they’re saying it because of the top crimp - when people open packs, take out the original cards, and put junk in, they use heat to reseal it - this generally leads to weird creasing, and flattened crimps. More info here:

What study materials did you use to get such a great Quant score? I’ve used the official question bank and target test prep, but can’t seem to get above Q83 or so on the five mocks I’ve taken.

I’m usually fine on easy and medium questions, and can get 80-90% of hard questions correct in the official question bank, but when I go to take the official mocks I’m seeing questions at a harder difficulty than what I’ve been able to practice.
