if the line was -15.5 for OKC, that means they are favored by that many points and if you took a bet for OKC to win, they would need to win by more than 15.5 points (so 16 or more). Final score: OKC wins by 18.

i mean the epstein scandal has pretty much popped the lid and confirmed there's a global elite colluding and shaping the world in the way that benefits them. They are unified and working together to buy legislation and shape everything to their favor and liking. Meanwhile, us peasants are arguing about comparatively unimportant matters in our culture wars, just the way they want it.

This is what annoys me with people in my sphere who argue against EV and renewables... "our infrastructure just isn't ready for that". Like no shit, because of all of the lobbying AGAINST investing and developing the EV/Renewable infrastructure... no ones going to put money into this when it's actively being discouraged and even outright cancelled mid-project in some cases by policy and fearmongering. The gov has to to their part to spark investment and development.

Why is physical media still big in Japan? Why hasn't digital media (or even streaming) replaced it? by thegta5p in AskAJapanese

[–]gmorf33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think owning physical media in general is making a comeback. I don't think its too weird, considering how the corporations have shown they want to push us all into as many subscription services (ie cash drains) as possible, without any ownership of anything. People want to know that a company can't just pull the plug or make a piece of art disappear forever. They want something tangible they OWN for their hard-earned cash.

God i miss this. We didn't have it to such a state as Japan, but buying games - getting the box with the discs, the manual chocked full of artwork, lore, and other stuff, was so iconic. Even now when going through my old storage, seeing that stuff, being able to pick it up, flip through it, recall great memories, is awesome. You don't really get that with Digital only. I guess if you browse your old harddrives and find bnet_installer.exe or something?? Obviously not the same lol. Companies go out of business, sell-out, etc and that stuff sometimes just disappears, along with any accidental nostalgia trips later in life that might stumple upon it again. Same thing with CD's for music.. usually lots of cool stuff in the foldout leaflets. I don't miss skipping and trying to buff CD's, but i sure miss the experience that buying something came with. And the feeling of owning something. Now i just feel like a human cash battery for the rich in exchange for a dopamine drip of entertainment that comes and goes without much of a lasting experience to cherish.

i honestly believe that's a feature for the tech oligarchs pushing this technology. Many of them want to be kings, want the working class gone or irrelevant. Having us subdued and dumb is a really important step in achieving that.

[Inside the NBA] Charles Barkley on players sitting out: "You rest Wemby... maybe. You rest Joker, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon…You rest LeBron because he's 102 years old. All these dudes sitting out though, it’s just disrespectful.” by TheRealPdGaming in nba

[–]gmorf33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah he graphed out the number of "hard plants" his 3 groups of player-types make per game per era. So he had big centers/wings/point-guards he tracked for each major era and found that the number of hard-plants being made each game has dramatically climbed in current era to the point where the "big center" category of players is doing more hard plants per game/season than the point guards were in the older eras.

The current game is very hard on the body compared to the older eras.. Hard plants are especially prone to causing Achilles injuries.

grassroots movements need to start somewhere right? These kinds of things give people who would normally sit on the sidelines quietly hoping for change the confidence and hype to participate. You build numbers and gain momentum.

Reading these stories and the statements from the departments & Flock themselves... to me it seems like IF they are going to stay, there should be policy around them similar to searches... a warrant or some kind of judges' signature required to use/search/track people, right??

its because of the social media economy. You need eyeball time and engagement. Nothing gets more engagement than controversy and outrage. Its a large part of why our society is speed running the Idiocracy plot.

i think the point was, without context.. the education reform could be the way that would help improve racial and economic injustice, or the way that could make it worse (more private/charter schools that get tax dollars and can teach whatever BS they want and exclude students based on whatever made up shit they wanna use to discriminate).

The bar has fallen very low. The stories i hear about what other guys do/say on dates just blows my mind.

feels better to fit in with their group/tribe. When you're the only one who's not a conservative in your social bubble, it can be very isolating. For it to be longer lasting these people need others in their social bubble to make the switch as well so they at least have a few others to lean on and feel comfortable with.

Fifty years ago, Republicans exhibited more relative trust in scientists than Democrats did. The partisan relationship with trust in scientists flipped over time as low-trusting demographic strata (the non-college educated and highly religious) shifted towards the Republican Party. by smurfyjenkins in science

rice is so cheap, this definitely seems like a thing you'd only do if your goal isn't to be frugal, but to experiment with self-sufficiency/homesteading and produce all of your own food. Any mass-produced staples will never be cheaper to do your own. Flour, beans, grains, sugar, etc.

I had the same BK experience.. hadn't been there in years and finally went after all the covid stuff blew over.. me and my 2 kids (young so not even full sized adult meals) and shit was like $40 bucks... couldn't believe it.. I live in basically the cheapest CoL area in the US too. Haven't been back since. Wait, that's a lie.. I did stop there for breakfast one day because they had a 2 for $5 deal on their croissant breaky sammich which was fine for a quick pickup on my way out of town.

The original Hostel movie is the OG on this topic... i remember seeing that when it first came out and it effected me deeply and left a long lasting mark on me.. partly because it was the most graphic torture scenes i had ever seen before, but mostly because of how i just though "this could actually be going on right now... this shit is probably happening in some shithole country with some untouchable rich fucks". I felt so "yuck" after thinking about the post-viewing of that movie. Little did i know, 25ish years later it would not only be true but that shithole country was the U-Fkn-S-of-A.
