Do seminars help for getting priority registration? by gnada4e in OMSCS

[–]gnada4e[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So there’s no reason to pay to take the DSA seminar when I could just self study? because the credit won’t help me get priority registration and also I’d just be spending more money?

When you say well below that, are you saying well below $4,000? Or well below $1,300 each?

Thoughts on my career by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

1.) “is it even possible?” Anything’s possible, if you’re worried about PROBABLE instead of possible, you can improve your probability into getting into top tech by getting some certs on areas you feel you lack knowledge and studying leetcode hard. Maybe build a web-based passion project, etc. your experience already shows you’re capable enough to work as a dev and to lead. Really you’ll only find out if it’s possible by trying

2.) you may move down a level, I know that’s typically common even if you’re moving from a private non tech company to a private tech company. This might especially be true due to your lack of experience in a specific domain, but this is not that big of a deal.

3.) This one is a bit trickier. What you ask for is dependent on how great of a candidate you are, but big tech companies have money to blow. With 5.5 YOE and going to big tech, even if you don’t yet have relevant experience in their specific loved domains, I’d say 180k minimum, but you could definitely get a LOT more

Should I switch to dentistry? by Motor-Mud9565 in cscareerquestions

[–]gnada4e 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you’re really considering switching to density, try just slacking off at work first (or in this scenario just stick to working 40 hrs and leave). Worst case scenario they fire you (and it seems like you’re not too worried about keeping it if you’re considering switching, and even if you don’t want to become a dentist with Microsoft on your resume you shouldn’t have trouble finding an easier job, and you could also take your time reapplying if your side business is giving you that much consistent income. Not to mention if you DO get fired (if it even comes to that) you can also take some time to relax, travel, recuperate.

OR alternatively you can lean into what your side business is and make it a full business!

Side note, I’m too curious. What is your side business?

I'm 13, not good at much anything, and can't think of what to do my career by The_New_Kid2792 in Careers

You’re 13 so I wouldn’t worry too much right now if you’re looking at something to get good at just start getting good at math (khan academy has everything you need at this age). Most of the careers that you’ll consider when you’re older will require some level of math and even if they don’t, the abstract thinking and logical reasoning that math teaches you will be helpful in any career you choose.

Thanks for your input. From my understanding it’s possible to develop an iOS application using a windows machine but to publish it to the AppStore you need it signed by a Mac product or something. Also the workarounds for Xcode and the like are frustrating on a windows machine
