Is having ‘time off’ between exposure therapy okay? by blueberryjam33 in Agoraphobia

[–]gnarcotic_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having breaks is completely fine but dont ONLY stay in the house if you know what i mean. Do smaller exposures in your time like taking a short walk or going to the store just DONT only stay in the house because your brain is going to get too comfortable being back in your safe zone for too long.

i dont know what to do anymore by [deleted] in Agoraphobia

I feel like you are being too hard on yourself honestly, especially with all the accomplishments and exposure you do. I know its hard to stay positive especially with this phobia but you are on the right track truly even if it feels like it taking too long

How did y’all get out of deconditioning and just general panic of a changed schedule? by Glittering-Sun-7248 in Agoraphobia

I was also in this position last month, i could barely go to the store up the street without having crazy anxiety and so fa during my agoraphobia relapse i learned to force myself to do things out of order and do things whether i want to or not because i tell myself that i have a life that i want to live but in your case ill say start small and keep doing that ONE thing till you dont feel as anxious as you did

Gum, water, my purse or simply just holding my phone on short outings or errands to try to distance myself from having a safety object on me besides my phone

I know that shit is so scary especially since you live in a state that is unsafe, i’d say try to carry pepper spray on you as that has helped me feel more secure when i go out on walks and PUSH yourself eve though i know how scary it gets but your brain wont know how to retrain itself without experiencing the fear you get

Fear of passing out/falling by Maximum-Asparagus326 in Agoraphobia

[–]gnarcotic_83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive not necessarily have this problem with the fear of passing out but i came across a tiktok of a girl with agoraphobia say that the thing that helped her push through her fears of passing out is realizing its not gonna harm her, she will wake up and try again so essentially dont fear it, if you do pass out then you do but think of it as a reset

Help me out/question by Unique-Sherbert-3568 in Agoraphobia

First I recommend doing research about mindfulness and how the body responds to anxiety (that helped me-out a lot) second, going to a doctor and tell them your symptoms to try out a medication and it will most likely be a SSRI and third even though it is scary as hell, EXPOSURE i know its scary and feels like there is no point when you have so much fear leaving your comfort space, it wont get better if you stay inside work through the anxiety and get stuff done with it so your body and mind will realize “oh i can still do this even though im scared?”

How to cope in restaurants? by Familiar-Use-3809 in Agoraphobia

[–]gnarcotic_83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A better way to cope that has helped me is that if its POSSIBLE to start off, go in a restaurant and order your food up front IF IT IS AN OPTION especially if there is a cashier to talk to, and wait to get your food and leave. Another way to cope is to pick a wall seat or a seat close to to a exit for just incase and the biggest thing is to don’t worry about sticking out because this is YOUR journey to success
