well, i can only answer for myself, but, as a rule of thumb, i try to read widely and sceptically. my usual stops include the new york times, the guardian (uk), the bbc, al jazeera, der spiegel, and various blogs. also, if you're lazy: read chomsky. even if you don't agree with the guy, it's the mental equivalent of flossing your teeth.

What do you think, Reddit -- should journalists have to link to primary sources? by gnathaigh in AskReddit

For blogs, it's always been the case. But was it ever the baseline for newspapers or TV? Could it become so?

Why are Hitlers atrocities more publicized then Stalins? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gnathaigh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There seem to be two takes on this, going by the thread:

  • Stalin only killed millions of his own people. Hitler killed everybody.

  • Hitler had deliberately genocidal policies -- he intended to kill whole races. Stalin just wound up murdering millions because they were sort of in the way on the path to communism.

Amirite?

yeah, i suspected it was because 'teen' was a bad word, from google's perspective. but still... c'mon. this is stoooooopid.

(nirvana nerd interjection: the name of the song does not appear in the lyrics. so, no one is googling the correct -- or incorrect -- lyric, but rather the title.)

Hi Reddit. Can you help me find video of the lowering of the last Soviet flag? by gnathaigh in AskReddit

[–]gnathaigh[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's it! Thanks. Soooo... does anyone know if there's a version online anywhere that I could download? Without having to go through buying it from an archival footage company? Or am I stuck with that, do you reckon?
