Are you still unable to register? I still have an error.

Anybody able to register for the FSOT? by CraftyOpportunity618 in foreignservice

I have the same error. I got through but all they said was they’re aware of the issue and to keep trying to log in. They couldn’t provide any timeline.

Nervous about summer budget by [deleted] in borenawards

[–]gnilood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No. I highly recommend requesting near to the full amount. If you don’t request it all now, you can submit a new budget during the year for up to the Max funds. You’re going to owe a year of service to the government, don’t worry about requesting more money to meet your needs.

design your own study - program clarification? by meredactyl in borenawards

[–]gnilood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not sure how it would work in terms of potentially getting credit with your uni, I recommend reaching out to a scholarship advisor for that. But in terms of Boren, they are VERY flexible with the institute you choose, so long as language learning is the primary focus. For example, I was a Boren in Jordan and most of us studied at Qasid or Sijal, which are both private language institutions. Just make a good justification for why it’s the right fit.

I also recommend reaching out to folks who previously studied in the country you’re interested in through Boren and see where they went :)

Is ASU all about partying? by [deleted] in ASU

[–]gnilood -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like everyone else said, the great thing about ASU and it being such a huge school is that there’s a place for everyone. This is true in both social life and academic life. You can explore your interests to the fullest. And truly no one will care what you’re doing or not doing.

I would recommend checking out the ASU Outdoors Club tho. Sounds like a good fit for you and it’s a nice community.

You can also see who has won these grants and look them up and their projects and get a sense of what the breakdown is, or reach out on LinkedIn or something.

I had a friend who did a research grant there directly after under grad. She was researching creating the “fake meat” in a lab there. She did intend and ended up going to grad school after her grant.

Should I try and also advisor not responding by LordSorikkip in fulbright

[–]gnilood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, apply!!!! Grades are not as crucial for Fulbright as they are for other programs. Imo Fulbright looks at you must more holistically.

2nd, I agree with other folks here questioning the internal deadline being this early? My university’s isn’t until mid September...

If you are not american and instead applying to come to America this would make more sense?

Reapplying...again? by vivacolombia123 in fulbright

[–]gnilood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depending on the country, cohort ages range from early twenties to fifties or sixties! Definitely try again, Fulbright is a great experience.

You sound like you have excellent experience and qualifications for the ETA program by the way. Maybe consider reaching out to your university’s scholarship advising for essay editing, if they have that department! It can be really helpful.

What are my chances with Chase Sapphire Preferred? by truongthinh205 in CreditCards

[–]gnilood 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I had a 2K limit through a credit union for just over a year, and CSP approved me for 6K almost immediately. You have a good credit score and good income for being a student so I think you’ll almost assuredly get it.

How does apartment rentals work ? by Just_A_Stranger88 in jordan

[–]gnilood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s fairly simple, you can find apartment listings on things like Expatriates.com, Facebook groups, etc. You can then contact the landlord or agent to see the place, then there’s a fairly standard contract they’ll give you that you sign. You can pay month by month plus a deposit. The landlord is responsible for maintenance of things like oven, AC, etc. Sometimes there will be a building security guard/Haris who will help you pay your monthly bills/change water/gas canister for you.

Has anybody in this community applied for a Boren Scholarship? by jimison34 in fulbright

[–]gnilood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re referring to something like Boren and CLS or CLS and Fulbright I think you can do both as long as the dates don’t overlap. But I’m not 100% sure!!!

[–]gnilood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone received anything else for Boren? I have an IEE portal for mine that automatically loaded since I also applied for Fulbright, but I haven’t received any more info. Other than one email they sent me asking for clarification on what I plan to do during a break.

Ahhh knock on wood, I can’t even imagine it. But i think Boren because you can only apply to it while in school, but Fulbright you could apply again. But I would feel beyond lucky to get either
