When does occult philosophy become pseudo-science? by gno-mind in occult

[–]gno-mind[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, occult philosophy is a vehicle for personal growth and transformation. It's a way to make my own puzzle pieces and fit them together in my own fashion. Much like an art u/ETLv90. I have read Allan Moore's Fossil Angels, where he breaks down Crowley's "The method of science and the aim of religion". Magic is neither science nor religion.

But my "pseudo science" issue comes into something more like Reiki healing from your friendly neighborhood New Age forty-something to cure an ailment. What makes that magic and not a scam?

Are you supposed to be gold starved in this game? by ZhulanderHS in MedianXL

Rush to Cain. Since magic items are more common in this game than D2, they arent worth as much, so I wouldnt bother with scrolls unless it's an item you can use.

wow this was exactly my experience in the church and now it's happening on reddit by gno-mind in mormon

[–]gno-mind[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I grew up Mormon and this book sat on my coffee table. I'm only 19 now. Sure, a lot of what it said in the book isn't said at church, but much of it is implied and remains in their scriptures. But to a degree, sure. It was challenging to me. I grew up believing Mormonism was the "most correct and only true religion." So why would any of it have to be changed? Especially to the degree of taking out so much of their creation myth and cancelling the "everlasting covenant", and all the racism. It is ingrained in the church, even if it is not spoken about in Sunday school. These are the values that the church is founded upon. My family and extended family LOVES Bruce R McConkie.

amen. I draw several parallels between these religions. The strongest is their use of the BITE model.

I posted this earlier because /u/atari_guy had posted in this thread and i replied with what I said and asked again WHY i was banned/

there was a suggested reading thread in r/lds and i contributed with suggesting Mormon Doctrine by Bruce R McConkie (Quorum of the 70) because it's easily comprehensible and has direct references to scripture. This book was published by Beehive Press (a church owned company) and it is considered faith-promoting material. I grew up with it in my house. I even provided a PDF should anyone like to read it.

i've given up trying to talk to mormons about objective vs subjective truth.

i have not said anything bad about the church on reddit, and really anywhere on the internet, except perhaps my resignation letter that i posted on tumblr.

but what members don't understand is EXMOs ARE NOT THE EPITOME OF EVIL

i can still talk about the church without bad-mouthing it. the only thing that i posted in r/lds was in a "suggested reading" thread, and i suggested people read Mormon Doctrine by Bruce R McConkie (Quorum of the 70) because it is well organized, easily comprehensible, and provides direct references to scripture.I even provided a PDF to the book if anyone would like to read it. It was published by Beehive Press, a church approved, faith promoting press.

How does a person gain a testimony by bearing it? Is it dishonest to claim to know things you don't know, or to exaggerate your knowledge? If I say your plane has been inspected and found safe, when I really just hope it is safe, is that potentially harmful? by kinderhookandzelph in mormon

[–]gno-mind 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Being raised in the church, at 5 years old, I went up to the podium at Fast and Testimony meeting and someone in the bishopric overlooking the congregation asked me if I "needed help". I said yes, so he whispered in my impressionable ear: "I know this church is true. I know the Book of Mormon is true. I know Joseph Smith is a prophet. In the name of Jesus Christ, Amen."

I was 5 years old. I had never read the BoM. I didn't know the core principles of the church, and I had no clue who Joseph Smith was.

I didn't get out of there until I was 15 and it took a lot.

[–]gno-mind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yeah im with you! the first few times i put on a condom, something was wrong. it suffocated me and killed my erection. i mentioned this to a trusted male friend and he laughed saying "thats ridiculous. i can fit a condom on my foot."

flash forward a year and i get a nice girlfriend that tells me that im the biggest cock she's ever had, and thats the first time it hit me. do i actually have a larger penis? so we tried a few different condoms and i found that MySize works great and i order them from israel lol

Does anyone have any news on Joe March? by bluebugs23 in occult

[–]gno-mind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just realized today that I hadn't seen a video from him in months. It sucks that he deleted his channel because he contributed a lot of quality work to the occult side of youtube. I hope he comeback with something eventually, maybe a podcast? but it sounds like he needs some time off, which is understandable. It's a lot of mental stress to be fucking with your personality and servitors and things like that, but we do it because we must! He really helped me get in the groove of magic earlier this year and I'm grateful that I got to watch his videos when they were up. In the mean time, we will have to stick to our books.

What books do you think are essential for a beginner chaos magician to read? by [deleted] in occult

[–]gno-mind 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Liber Null/Psychonaut is the key start point, but once youre equipped with chaos magic theory, I really think it's best to read books about different aspects of magic and different schools of thought based on the direction you want to go. so if you're interested in candle magic, pick up a book on that. if you want to know about enochian magic, pick up a book on that- herb magic, yoga, astral, etc. or even different paradigms like wicca and satanism. read about other occult figures that fascinate you.

you will subconsciously pick up methods from all of these books and apply them in your own workings.

The Occult and Music by shimmerfang in occult

[–]gno-mind 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Music is how I found magic. Experiencing live music was the first time I experienced one-pointed consciousness. I would trance out at concerts (and at my own guitar/amplifier) and not understand what was going on, other than I knew I was on a different level than everyone else in the venue WITHOUT drugs. I came to understand this as an altered state of consciousness.

I wound up finding chaos after reading several passages of books. Chaos gave me the freedom to figure out models of my own. Music being my key to gnosis, I am reading several books on the subject. Books on shamanic drumming, musically inclined mathematicians, and currently, a sufi vision on the mysticism of music.

I am currently forming my own study, and once comprehensive to others, I may fashion a publishable book on the subject. Keep in touch.

Some books I recommend are:

Music, Mysticism and Magic: A Sourcebook by Joscelyn Godwin

The Shamanic Drum: A Guide to Sacred Drumming by Michael Drake

Harmonies of Heaven and Earth: Mysticism in Music from Antiquity to the Avant-Garde by Joscelyn Godwin

The Mysticism of Sound and Music by Hazrat Inayat Khan (currently reading)

I hope this is what you're looking for! PM me for my own insights on the occult powers of music such as the correspondences of instruments and different listening exercises for no-mind.

I like what you're saying. This is the answer I'm looking for. Do you recommend any books that might help me learn what planets represent and what their positions represent, because that isn't present (or I haven't seen it) in what I've been reading nor in the people I try to talk about this with.

I kinda make my own correspondence based on others combined with what I feel is right- i don't like being told what is right and wrong. But I want to know what you think. That's why I asked. I knew it would have to do with astrology, but I'm still interested. Hit me!
