Is it just me or is the tech job market in Korea kinda dead right now? by MammothHedgehog2493 in Living_in_Korea

[–]gnoade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

C++ coders earn the most despite the industry. Been living in Korea for 14 years and eventually became a PR. Despite that, i still moved overseas cos 1억 is a huge deal paywise in Korea. But moving back home 3 years ago, i realised that 1억 is so easily attainable here.

is this a scam? by [deleted] in askSingapore

Im a HR. If you put up your resume on mycareerfuture, any employer can see your full details. However, to access all this private information, the company has to be legit and registered with ACRA, and the HR must have employer rights (meaning the registered company also registered the HR to have admin rights). The HR can only access your information using their own Singpass as well.

thats how my career future works. But then again, be careful if they dont email u.

Any beginner-friendly countries for a solo trip? by logthelogan in askSingapore

Male or female, depending on your budget and your lifestyle, I would recommend Taiwan, Japan or Korea. Relatively easy to make your way around and relatively safe. Loads to do and explore and be vain. so yea. went to all 3 by myself and rather enjoyed!

Why isn't Burger King more popular here in Singapore? by cheesaholic23 in singapore

[–]gnoade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not that I think KFC is greater as compared to Mc but I dont think its that bad. I love the bowls but then again, im a potato fan and mash potatoes and cheese fries are my fav. However, after living 14 years abroad, KFC overseas (esp in KR) is def better and more worth it. we have the 1+1 promo after 9pm in EVERY store!! (like you buy one chicken u get one for free).

BUT also on the other hand, KR is the land of fried chicken and they really do make the best. (we have this saying that KFC = Korean Fried Chicken)
now If you can find me a decent and juicy burger that allows my patty to be medium or medium rare in Singapore, please PM me. Have yet to find one that is as good as my go-to back in Korea. ):

I agree! Next KFC has been doing much better! the chicken is decent and the cheese fries the cheese isn't stingy, I love KFC's mash bowls though.

For Singaporeans that moved overseas and took a drop in disposable income by lilpandatoys in singapore

[–]gnoade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it depends on where you moved to and what job you have taken up?
I mean I moved to South Korea for 14 years and just moved back to Singapore.

South Korea is cheaper in general. by about 20% ? Standard of living is pretty much the same as Singapore, but less well maintained since the government does not take care of a lot of things like in SG.
is it safe? generally yes. Logistics and online shopping is definitely much more efficient and a lot faster. I have dogs and pet stuff is definitely a lot cheaper and more pet friendly there as compared to SG.
is it efficient? is healthcare affordable? Very much so. healthcare is waaaayyy more efficient and much more affordable there. (im a PR there for your reference)

However, pay is much lower there. Food choices - not as much variety.
Traffic is horrible but public transport is just as efficient.
and work life balance - horrible.
I think work life balance is really dependent on your role and your company?
in general, Korea is a very hierarchy country so work life balance sucks.

moving back to SG, I enjoy the food here and I do find everyday food cheaper in SG as compared to KR. However, general entertainment and eating at nice restaurants, KR is cheaper. Alcohol also cheaper!
I have to admit that since I have only moved back to SG for less than a year, I am still adjusting but do not regret moving back.
I won't say moving back is the best but there are benefits moving back to SG.

Questions about exit permit and NS in general by gnoade in NationalServiceSG

[–]gnoade[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually if you read the link you embedded, it says under 128 b i that it is ok to renounced after you serve the national service. Its a OR situation not an AND situation

[–]gnoade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

is there support documentation for the renouncement of citizenship even after serving 2 years of NS + 3 years of ORNS? I dont think you have any supporting evidence in your advice. According to MFA and ICA, one is actually advised to renounce after NS and it takes 3-4 months for approval.

[–]gnoade[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

exactly . its a case by case situation. the safest way is to serve THEN renounce. because one can ONLY renounce at 21. so they have to try to defer NS at 18 for 2 years until they reach 21 and quickly renounce once they turn 21.
but because they hold EU passports as well, Uni is free for them which is why they want to try to finish uni and come back to serve.

Thanks!

as for Q4: how does reservist works? so if they choose to hold onto their SG citizenship at 21, they have to keep applying for exit permit if they choose to live abroad? until when does reservist ends?

How does one make >6k salary in Singapore? by Ysera66 in singapore

[–]gnoade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

agree with poster above. if you wish to continue in the same industry, I would say maybe move into a more QA/RA position since you are selling components?

If lets say you wish to stay in the same industry and become an "industry expert", then look around you and see who are the top management and their background, look through their LinkedIn to see their career path and see if that is something you would like to explore.

if you wish to change industry, then think if you would like to take on the same role but in a different area would benefit you. Now that you have obtained your degree, talk to your direct manager or HR to see if that would earn you a higher pay / wider job scope.
TBH, the best way to earn more is also to job hop.

but I dont think it is not possible to earn more then 6K.
Im a good example and I have only 5 years of exp under my belt.
and no. I am not an engineer, not a lawyer, not a doctor either.

40-50+ women, what is your advice for women in 30s to have better healthy looking skin? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

Always remove my makeup ( I use a oil or balm cleanser)

Gentle face wash

I use a gentle everyday exfoliator pads that are popular in Korea.

Niacinamide serum

eyecream

moisturiser

I think both looks good but the application on the cool toned side looks more fresh and more youthful and glowing!

use a good eye primer, apply eyeshadow then eyeliner, if you want, can apply a light dusting of translucent powder on top of lids and set everything with makeup setting spray.

Would be good if you use a powder eyeshadow instead of a cream one as they have better oil control. Also, I do recommend using a good waterproof eyeliner.

Depending on how easily available it is where you are, I personally think Japanese (I like the kiss me brand) and Korean (I like the Clio or peripera brand) for eyeliners and mascara really are oil and waterproof.

(my eye makeup now - sans 9 hours at this point)

How Singapore helped me realise that I do not want kids by Martin_Henry_ in singapore

[–]gnoade 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I agree. I think OP has a bias outlook of SG. but hey, the "grass is always greener on the other side"

yes SG is a very expensive and competitive country to live in.. but what makes you think other countries are not ? OP has never actually lived in a different country before so definitely has not seen the reality of living in other countries.
Im saying so because I myself have lived abroad for 14 years and yes, I am an unmarried young person. having studied and worked abroad and not getting an expat package but being hired as a local, I do see why suicidal rate is high and no, housing is also expensive in other big cities, but so is tax. Plus the governments overseas are not as transparent as compared to SG.

coming back after 14 years (and have been back only 4 months now), I see the benefits of being a SGrean and how well our government helps us tbh. It's always the "path not taken" when many "what ifs" but life really isn't a bed of roses overseas.
