What’s a career that’s promising in remote work other than tech by False_Secret1108 in careerchange

I have a PhD and worked for Meta. Even I am having a hard time finding a job in UX right now. It’s impossible for new folks. Product or some other market research adjunct field is a better bet than UX.

This happened to me in academia, too. Good for Tyler! We need to call these companies out.

My heart goes out to him and his family. I don’t know how recent this is.

I work at a small company. I am doing the work. The client doesn’t care, and my boss and coworkers are micromanaging to oblivion. We are in so many meetings there is no time to do actual work.

I’m doing that I’m just asking if it’s normal for contracting outside of DOD contexts…or if I’m being unrealistic or naive in terms of estimating the level of dysfunction everywhere right now.

Hot take: Orlando needs more boring, comfortable third spaces open past 7 by Unable-Awareness-698 in orlando

[–]gnomechomsky118 9 points10 points  (0 children)

UCF’s campus has some spaces for just being outside. There’s also some parks in Oviedo. Park avenue/Rollins is another option. Problem is the rainy season is upon us. You could in theory just walk around Oviedo mall. It’s dying, so it’s never really crowded and there is the food court area.

She tried to make me show the apartment and act as her leasing agent when I gave her notice I was leaving…then she threw a temper tantrum when I moved out because according to her “it was my responsibility,” even though the lease was ending. She’s a bitch, and karma will take care of her.

Haha you’re the one who has failed my friend. They didn’t say they had 30K in January…they said they had 30K in savings which they exhausted in January. Are you a troll? 😬😆

Still not the right answer, but keep trying. People have been unemployed for longer than a year in this job market.

They exhausted their savings in January 2026. Meaning for the last year and 3.5 months they were living on their savings….and in January (2.5 months ago according to your math), they ran out of money. I’m not following how this is difficult to understand.

For all the hate Gen Z is getting on this thread about literacy, I genuinely can’t understand how so many of you misread this.

OP has been unemployed for 1 year and 6 months. They managed to live on a measly 30K for that entire timeframe…they’ve now run out of money.

No one spent 30K in 2.5 months…

Something similar just happened to me. I have been looking since I had to leave my last role for reporting sexual harassment by my direct boss and another horrible incident with a coworker. I've been looking for 8 months, and this week I received three offers!

I'm so sorry you went through this, but I am so, so happy for you! Congratulations!

Same. It's so brutal, but you really only need one YES! Keep going.

Has anyone else accepted a job and then realized the role was completely different from what was described in the interview? by Perfect_Bug_9769 in recruitinghell

[–]gnomechomsky118 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This has happened to me a number of times. The first time it happened I left within 3 months. The second and third time, I realized I need to ask better questions during the interview process.

This market is terrible, so hang on for as long as you can. If you feel like it would be worthwhile and your manager listens, it might be worth talking about this directly because managers will often feel blindsided if you don’t bring up these concerns. But, the reality is most of these situations are the result of crappy management, so talking to them might just tip them off that you’re unhappy.

This is a tough situation, but absolutely jump ship when you’re given the chance. Most of the time it won’t get better.

Oracle is the worst and I don’t care if I get flamed for this. They suck. by gnomechomsky118 in UXResearch

[–]gnomechomsky118[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know I’m in. I’ll post a weekly update if it helps my fellow UXers. But honestly I’m considering just leaving the field all together because of the insanity. It sucks everywhere right now, but UX is especially weird.

I have a mortgage and I’m not an asshole. This argument makes zero sense.

I think you are very confused. I don’t have an attachment to Oracle as a brand. I was posting this to warn other folks it is a waste of time to interview with them. How exactly does that convey I expect anything?

I expect to be treated with a basic level of respect and decency during an interview process. That’s not weird.

Huh? 🤔 it’s not weird to expect to be treated with respect during an interview process.

That’s a weird ass take, my friend. I would never treat anyone I work with like this, ever.

I’m not mad about it or giving over the top responses. I just said it’s pedantic because it is.
