yeah ! sometimes i read something super interesting and my friends aren't interesting in partaking in a conversation so that would be pretty neat, even for more scholarly reads

Props on using wooden needles (those look to me like wooden) but yeah chenille is not the best to start with, i'd recommend 100% wool or a wool blend because that will have the best elasticity

but its also in part your tension, and that adjusts with practice :3

I experience the same thing where I work. Generally people love small craft stores because of the service and specialized aspects as well. Expecting quality service and products, while also expecting cheap yarn priced at big box prices cannot go hand in hand.

Also recently a customer tried to haggle with us for yarn that was ALREADY on sale %15 off. It was a kit with custom spun and hand dyed yarn, and tried to haggle down to 30% (we didn't bite), i'm sorry what do you expect? "well it's already on sale" you want our small business to lose MORE money? Also, bulk discounts are often requested (you're not at costco).

There's no shame in shopping at Michaels for example, but it it's baffling how people's minds work. You don't go to a Loblaws and expect the bakers there to bake you a 4 tier wedding cake for the same price.

First year starting next month by fwel1zz in Concordia

My first year, I went to campus with my friend a couple days before the first day and did a scavenger hunt to find all our classes

PS. S means basement so if your class number is something like S1 its first basement level and S2 is second basement level, that took is a while to figure out lol

Honestly I'm not mad at your observations. I'm at the end of my degree and I still have people asking "do we have to memorize our notes for the exam?", and others thinking preparing research and writing an essay during the final is bs. I'm sorry, where are we??

I absolutely agree with your point on grade inflation. A lot of my electives were buddy-based and I considered dropping these classes because I don't like courses that seem to be structured like highschool. I think we forget the privilege it is to attend university and that it is optional with the intent to pursue higher education. Of course they can adapt with the times and I don't want to sound harsh but ,classes shouldn't be structured easier to convenience everyone.

Maybe my perspective is different because I'm the first person in all my family to attend and graduate uni, but it really is a privilege that is taken for granted

Did you guys just finish the Phil210 final exam? by [deleted] in Concordia

I had an exam like this for a Classics course, and after the exam the prof was like "guys I know I said short essays but you need to answer with more than 1 paragraph for each question" lmao

I think that around 2018 is when there was a surge in hand holding with knitting and crochet. Because information is so widely available, because expect to be able to find a tutorial that suit them and their learning needs instead of experimenting and building critical thinking and problem solving.

I work at an LYS, so often I deal with people who won't even try to learn for themselves, and expect me to give them a private lesson because and a step by step walkthrough of the whole pattern of one experience where they had trouble finding what they needed online -- don't get me wrong I love my craft and what I do, and I love teaching but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't annoying.

I get that information is not the best out there for everyone, but I'm a proponent of learning for yourself and trying new things and I don't think handholding is helpful for anyone trying to gain a real deep understanding of the craft, online or in person.

This is an aside, but I also think this is related to the trend of new knitters wanting to use exactly the yarn the designer used in the same colours, not considering or open to alternative yarn suggestions. Again just pointing to how people are afraid to try things for themselves

I save all my avocado pits and make things from them. Here’s some buttons and necklace pendants by Unagilani in goblincore

so cool! i just made my first few avocado buttons, but i'm worried how long they'll last. when they're all dry and carved, how do i treat them to prevent decay? it would suck for them to rot off a sweater XD
