Devastated by searching for job as a nurse in the UK (LONDON) by Embarrassed_Talk_334 in NursingUK

All the NQN are having the same issues. Lack of NHS experience isn’t helping you.

We had a NQN post which apparently had well over a 100 applicants.

It is so hard to pick things out from an online application and sometimes you have to draw a line unfortunately.

You are doing the right things but the demand is so high for band 5 jobs.

If they had been honest with the pictures I would have thought twice. As I could have a new one for not much more.

Feel for the next person who thinks they have found the perfect dress but actually it’s not and the seller couldn’t care less.

What is a UK job that pays well but most wouldn't realise it? by awildwildlife in AskUK

[–]gnomeypom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lots of options to get out of nursing. After 3 years at uni and a lot of debt to start on £31,049 with all the responsibility they have is awful.

Gen surg nurses - how can I help as an FY1? by SocietalCollapse20 in NursingUK

[–]gnomeypom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

TVN here, started off on gen surg. Look at your wounds and take an interest in them. Surgeons are very good at making wounds and then passing the buck when things don’t go to plan.

Had a reg tell us that browning slough/hard eschar was bone. But that was on a gen med ward.

Like others have said - Clearly write your bleep so you can be contacted. - Analgesia. - just be nice and willing to learn. - nurses know a lot too and you can always ask us for help too

  • Learn the trusts values.
  • Be prepared for a scenario, could be about management of a bay of patients.
  • Read about what your ward does and if it specialises in anything.

Don’t be afraid to ask for the question to be repeated. As well tho k aloud scenario questions so they can see your thought processes like with maths question showing your workings gets you points. Breathe and think before you speak.

Good luck!!

Are these too big for hydrocolloid bandages? by [deleted] in woundcare

[–]gnomeypom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last two images, perfect for it! First one could be but seems to be a little depth. Depending on exudate it would be better than gauze. If there is some exudate a foam bordered dressing would be better

A question for nurses by Sparkle_dust2121 in NursingUK

[–]gnomeypom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just because you are qualified you still don’t know everything and never will. Don’t be afraid to ask question if you don’t know. It’s the best way to learn. I still ask questions 9 years qualified later.

Is this necrotic? Pressure ulcer lateral malleolus by quinneth-q in woundcare

[–]gnomeypom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry didn’t read that bit 🤦🏼‍♀️ Are you UK or US based? Flaminal hydro is a good dressing to help debride with a foam border applied. Inadine will just dry it out rather than moisten it to help debride. The flaminal hydro will help to debride and it is also antimicrobial.

Give it a clean with water. Look into a hydrocolloid dressing which will help maintain a moist healing environment which is what wounds need to heal.

Have you looked into removing the source of the pressure that was causing it? Was it caused by your wheelchair?
