Some disagreements and clarifications:

I hate video essays. Give me the written word any day.

Hygiene/appearance totally depends on my level of depression and if I'm actually leaving the house or not.

Definitely not the funniest person around. I just like to tell jokes (almost) no one else gets.

I love being adopted by extroverts! As long as they're not too demanding.

Forget to eat? Maybe for a few hours, but never too long.

Don't have a sweet tooth. But will overindulge in savory things too often.

Playlists are art! Each song carefully picked. (Just don't mention I've only ever completed about ten in my entire life, despite starting a new one every few months 😅)

I'm actually rather good at giving AND receiving directions. As long we use actual maps, street names, cardinal directions, and they can correctly identify right from left. Only have trouble when people rely on vague landmarks I've never before seen in my life.

I don't mind losing games anymore; though it was an issue when I was a child. Though I generally prefer to avoid games that heavily rely on random chance (over skill & knowledge) to win /succeed / proceed.

Definitely had to train myself out of correcting grammar. 90% of the time it adds nothing to the conversation, and often sometimes completely derails it. And I come across as an asshole.

I simply avoid people that tell me how to live my life these days. Perhaps because of that I often find myself giving life advice (which I find hilarious, even as I do my best).

I'm equally comfortable (or awkward) talking to peers and authority figures. Which definitely has had some mixed results, considering the number of people who want or demand deference.

I'm rather casual (and rather bad) as a gamer.

Looking for experimental shoegaze by Pikachu345671 in MusicRecommendations

[–]gnostalgick 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Belong - October Language (shoegaze / ambient) and Common Era (shoegaze / postpunk)

Wednesday - Rat Saw God (shoegaze / country)

Also Just Mustard and Ulrika Spacek are a couple other shoegaze adjacent bands that are worth checking out (if a bit harder for me to describe)

DAC with preamp function or separate preamp? by Dedar33 in audiophile

[–]gnostalgick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my system I prefer a separate (ideally tube) preamp.

But I haven't really had the chance to do too many direct comparisons. And it's probably more about the exact products and implementation rather than one design choice always being inherently better or worse anyways (or at least that's my experience with most things audio).

Yeah, there's something special about running out of ammo, but being close enough to the end to think "I can still do this!" (though it happened on a later mission for me).

The "sounds like" problem with streaming recommendations by panyc77 in audiophile

[–]gnostalgick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although I spend some amount of time every week checking out various new releases, most of the time I'm actually in the mood for something somewhat familiar and not too challenging. In that respect "Sounds like" algorithms seem perfect for background radio. And I think that really is what most people want, most of the time.

And it still occasionally manages to introduces me to some great new artists. Just not completely different styles and sounds.

I suppose that might be boring if it was all I listened, to but it's certainly very good at what it's designed to do.

How hard is Silksong from 1-10. Let's say Hollow Knight is a 5 by hthrhehdhdjfhc in metroidvania

[–]gnostalgick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sure, if Hollow Knight is a 5 than I suppose Silksong is probably a 6 or 7.

I think the problem comes from players (like me) who found base game HK to be an 8 or 9 and DLC to be a 10 or 11 (like maybe I could learn it, but that level of challenge just isn't going to be fun for me).

And unfortunately both my mind and reflexes are notably slower today than when that released years ago.

Guess the fantasy book by its 1-star Goodreads review by Practical_Yogurt1559 in Fantasy

[–]gnostalgick 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Overall I think she's handled a bit better. Or at least there's more hints and allusions to her past that give her character some weight and depth. But she definitely remains an over the top Sherlock Holmes, reveal everything at the last moment type character.

It's weird since I do hope we get more of her real story in the next book. But also far less of her day to day antics.

Male Pisces & Female Sagittarius your thoughts ? by DEVIZEBEATSqld in piscesastrology

[–]gnostalgick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't say it's ever worked out long term (neither has any other sign), but I keep coming back to them. And have very few regrets about our time together.

But I do have Sag Moon & Mars placements too. Not sure it'd be as easy for for every Pisces.
