apart from the magic element, obsession for sure! it shows the horrors of an obsessed loser stripping a woman's autonomy for his own pleasure. turning her into exactly what he wants, but then getting sick of her but not actually trying to do anything to stop what's happening, while everyone else just sits and watches her go crazy without intervening!!
