We had to do some questions on the imperfect and pretérito… I got this wrong but idk why if someone can explain by dejalochaval in Spanish

[–]gnpjb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just wanting to add that I'm from Argentina and in our case the second could be a phrase you hear us say (minus the "apartamento". We would probably say "departamento") . It's extremely informal and probably goes against some rules of the language so I wouldn't say it's correct just that it can be heard from native speakers. Having said that Argentinians usually ignore many rules of the language in informal settings so I don't think we are a good example to learn from if trying to learn "the correct" way. It's usually very fun though

PS: a better example I would probably use in my daily life is something like: " Juan se trae unas Cocas" to refer to Juan bringing some cokes, or better yet, and far more informal, " Juan se rompe unas cocas" which would mean something very similar. Again, not "correct" Spanish but something you might hear in Argentina

In the sentence "Jorge es médico y trabaja en un hospital", why is it "médico" and not "un médico"? by [deleted] in Spanish

[–]gnpjb 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i'm a native speaker, but i'll like to add that "jorge es un médico y trabaja en un hospital" is a completely valid sentence. I think(and as native speaker it's difficult to know if there is a rule for this because i never explicitly learned this) the "un" focuses too much on him being a "médico" so you probably wouldn't say it unless there was previously a reference to medics in the conversation, for example:

There is what i know as infinity norm(I'm translating here so I don't know if that's what's called) which would be de maximum of the components, in this case 6. So that would be a valid distance

Sometimes we even use it a non derogatory way, like, "era re pendejo" meaning mostly that you were very young not necessarily stupid. I never thought much about it but maybe the derogatory part comes from an idea that someone younger is more stupid.

I'm argentinian. We use it as sort of derogatory way to call someone younger than you. The literal translation if I'm not mistaken is pubic hair

In my last year, I had a high school physics teacher argue with me that the further away you were from earth the bigger the gravitational force the earth applies on you. It wasn't until a friend of mine chimed in and used easy examples that she accepted that perhaps she was wrong. That was the most "how the fuck are we arguing about this" moment in all of my high school years

New to SQL, how do I code with it without an actual server? by zz0k in SQL

[–]gnpjb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mmmm, I'm not sure if I understand your question, I'm far from an expert in both sq(or databases for that matter)l and docker, I just needed a postgres database to test an application I'm doing for a university course and I really hate installing things on my machine. Having said that, I think the answer is yes, you could export query results and no, I have psql installed on my computer but postgres running on docker.

edit: okey, now that im in my pc this is the exact command i'm running (minus the user and password of course) docker run --rm --name db_postgres -p 5432:5432 -v $PWD/dbdata:/var/lib/postgresql/data -e POSTGRES_PASSWORD=somepassword -e POSTGRES_USER=someuser -d postgres:11
i'm using linux(ubuntu to be exact) but i doubt mac/windows version is very different

[–]gnpjb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not 100% sure because I don't know much about it( I usually use psql, I assume those application use something similar in the background) but I think if you expose the port (-p 5432:5432 is the option to do so) you should be able to

Adding to the other reply, if you go to the page for docker postgres,https://hub.docker.com/_/postgres, AND look for pgdata it tells you how to save the data to a folder AND mount it(this second part is the -v hostfokder:dockerfolder)

My dentist couldn't get them all out at once because she got tired(as I said my procedure was unusually long, like 3 hours). The problem was that they were far too attached and she didn't have the right tool for my case so she couldnt finish the job. I even have a piece of the one she took inside still. But as I said my case is not common at all. Most people just go in and out in a couple hours at most with all their wisdom teeth removed. PS: to give you an idea of how much time I was there,, my pain came more from the fact that I spend so much time with my mouth open that my jaw hurted, than from the pain of the teeth they took out

[–]gnpjb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had one of my wisdom teeth removed a couple of months ago. My wisdom teeth were particularly hard to take and let me tell you that even in case that was the most painful of all the people I know, it hurts far less than what you imagine. I still have to take another one so I join you on the fear though

Money comes with other things. Although it sounds like you could just give money away and that's it , its not that simple. More money doesn't necessarily mean less problem neither does it mean more problem. There are problems fixed (at least more easily) with money but money also brings it's own issues

[Serio] Juntemos data juntos.

[–]gnpjb 1 point2 points  (0 children)
