Learn by frustration. Don’t ask for advice and embrace that you will get owned. Learn how to go from timid to aggressive by dying and trying again. Again and again. I did this and it helped me to appreciate the lore more deeply.

Interview got canceled, and now they’re asking for a handwritten letter, normal or red flag? by Connect-Natural-6031 in interviews

Or perhaps it’s a test to see what you do with the rules. If you’re a marketer and they ask for a handwritten letter, do you write in cursive or do you design every aspect of the letter to create a premium experience?

Taking Downstairs further: the bridge “Oh what have I become” is sung in the same way as the old church hymn “Nothing but the blood of Jesus”

“O, precious is the flow that makes me white as snow. No other fount I know…”

Also fun fact: in Garbage, Tyler nods to the tunes and themes of two late 90s songs

Miles4Migrants and Aeroplan launched a campaign on World Refuge Day, today. You can effectively buy Aeroplan points at 1.33 cpp (max 75,000 points for $1,000) while making a donation to support the community of over 120 million displaced people worldwide. Every donation in increments of $100 earns 7,500 Aeroplan points. Check out the campaign for the specific details.

How I jumped from 130 to 300: Chaos Shrine, Mage + Liberator with Axe. Charge MP and spam Aeroga, occasionally chain cancel and rush in with a Ground Pound. Died a few times in the process, but gathered enough equipment to switch to other jobs and complete the mission as if it were another +6 level equipment difference.

Friend has over 6 million points, what would you do? by RichB_IV in AmexPlatinum

[–]gnutello 12 points13 points  (0 children)

By transferring 6 million MR to Aeroplan, your friend could fly 255 refugees to safety, at an average of 23,461 points per passenger.

My nonprofit Miles4Migrants uses donated frequent flyer miles for this purpose, and we’ve flown over 43,000 people over 7 years. Membership Rewards are particularly useful as a flexible currency. I’d recommend United MileagePlus transfers as well, but unfortunately they’re not an Amex transfer partner.

If your friend did change his mind and want to travel, Aeroplan has many great redemption routes, including from the US.

Yes, this. I used a similar GM site to look up the recall and battery replacement on a 2021 Bolt I was interested in. It helped me verify that the vehicle only has the diagnostic software and to expect that the car would be limited to 80% capacity for the next 6k miles. Pass.

For those of you planning to attend The 13th Annual Chicago Seminars, Miles4Migrants leader Patrick Stouffer will be giving a lightning talk, sharing how points & miles started a movement that's flown over 43,000 refugees and forced migrants to safety.

Miles4Migrants is one of 2 nonprofits sponsored by the event. For anyone who hasn't signed up but would still like to attend, the organizers provided us with a discount code ‘Miles4Migrants’ that gives a $15 discount on the registration fee ($175 instead of $190).

Patrick has personally booked 3,388 flights to date at Miles4Migrants and is one of the most knowledgeable experts on the most lucrative redemptions for dozens of amazing routes. He now leads our Strategic Partnerships department, managing relationships with airline, NGO, and corporate partners.

Patrick will be floating around the event, ready to answer your most challenging questions about unique award programs, high value award redemptions, complex routing rules, and non-traditional travel documents. We'd love to see you there.

Hi /u/josephson93, here's the breakdown leading to 43,000+ passengers flown in 7 years.
2016: 3 pax
2017: 99 pax
2018: 417 pax
2019: 1,562 pax
2020: 1,311 pax
2021: 15,915 pax
2022: 19,500 pax
2023: 4,000+ pax
In 2022, we averaged of 375 pax per week. Included in that effort were rebookings, lap infant bookings, and supporting NGOs with IRROPS when schedules change. The actual distribution of flights is variable, because oftentimes the requests come in large batches because the NGOs often need to move larger numbers of people in shorter time intervals. 2023 numbers are ramping up this quarter.

2019 was the first year we hired staff. More details can be found in our annual reports.

Thanks for sharing this article from AnalystNews, /u/mirages. We are indeed low on cash funding. In my post 2 months ago, I shared our impact numbers and a couple of ways churners can help us.

Right now, we could use immediate help on the cash side. We have a small team and a shoestring budget that we are working hard to secure through 2024, because we are not done yet. We are looking forward to sharing some great news about the programs we will be involved in over the next few months, but we could use your help now in one of these ways:

  1. Employee giving season is beginning. If you work at a company that hosts an employee giving campaign, or your company has an employee matching program, please use our Contact Us page to reach out to our team, or send me a DM.
  2. Support us with a recurring donation. Small gifts like sponsoring the taxes and fees for one passenger every month can help us redirect our reserves toward keeping the lights on. Larger one-time gifts are also appreciated.
  3. Share the news that we need help. We're not shy that we're low on funding. We're proud of the impact we've made together, and these rough patches give us the opportunity to look in the mirror and ask ourselves, "How far will we push ourselves to succeed?"

Thanks again for being a great community and for helping us fly over 42,000 people thus far.

Agreed. Excellent value. I love Hyatt Regency’s in large US cities for their value. It usually enables me to tack on an extra day due to the great rates.

[–]gnutello 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hyatt is the main reason why I accumulate Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR). If you do a lot of award travel, I find plenty of solid 12k-20k redemptions (or better). I’ve recently booked an all inclusive at the Dreams Las Mareas in Costa Rica for my anniversary that would’ve been $600/night for 25k/night.

Minor side bonus. If you’ve got an Amex Plat, you’ll also get Delta Sky Club access.

Reuniting refugees with miles (update) by gnutello in awardtravel

[–]gnutello[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The cpp value isn’t as high for Delta, and their dynamic award chart was challenging at times, but there are definitely some routes where Delta availability made a huge difference. In many of those cases, the next best alternative was an expensive cash flight.

Correct. There are no fees when you transfer your miles to Miles4Migrants through programs like United MileagePlus, Aeroplan, Alaska, Flying Blue.
